Anyone in Sydney wanting to do a change or flush?
ZF have quoted me $542.52 for 20L so $27.13 per L.
If we order more we should be able to do better.
How may to litres to fill and how many for flush?
Also possibly we could get some steel replacement pans with the separate filter?
Could distribute at pub lunch? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hey Andrew - is that right? $242.52 for 20L works out to $12.13 a litre... that sounds way too cheap!
I'm interested - but probably not until July or later. Tell you about it at the pub lunch.

Sorry Rob, you were right should be $542.52 but per litre is right I think.

Thanks Rich.
Interesting to know which is best is it worthpaying extra for the ZF one? A&B use the ZF one I know.
So options seem to be
OEM
Dextron VI
Esso? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hey Andrew - I have been reading some of the Ford forums and most of the XR6 Turbo crowd that do track work are now running Castrol Transmax Z (even though it on mentions it meets ME-TL 14 and not ME-TL 11), or Penrite SIN ATF. Note that these modified XR6 Turbos are often putting out more than 600HP! It seems a lot of the 6HP26 autos in them are overheating - as not all models come with transmission coolers.
That being said though, as I am still in warranty - I'd rather not upset the apple cart.
FWIW, Ford spare parts want about $44 for 1L of their ZF 6HP26 ATF!
Cheers,
Rob

From AULRO thread:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/105951...ost1262562
"Penrite think their oil is OK::
An advanced formula synthetic, this ultimate multi-vehicle ATFcan be used for automatics in GM (Holden) vehicles as well as in many American, Japanese and European models. Highly recommended for frequent towing and in heavy-duty transmissions. Suitable for service fill of Mercedes 5 and 7 speed autos, ZF 4, 5 and 6 speed autos.
MERCON®V (Ford M2C202, GM DEXRON®-IIIH, Allison C-4/TES-295, Chrysler MS 9602 (ATF+4®), ZF TE-ML14B/C, JASO 1A
http://www.penriteoil.com.au/pis_pdfs/SIN%20ATF.pdf
Penrite SIN ATF is recommended for use in a wide
variety of transmissions where performance better than
standard fluids is required. Applications include the
service fill and top up of automatic transmissions of most
vehicles on the market as well as power steering
systems, and manual transmissions where DEXRON-
II/III type fluids are specified. While SIN ATF has a
conventional ATF viscosity, it can be used successfully in
many transmissions that require the new type of lower
viscosity fluids.
That last bit is a worry
EUROPEAN PERFORMANCE: ZF 4, 5 and 6 speed
autos, Mercedes 4, 5 and 7 speed autos, Aisin Warner
FWD autos such as used in Holden, Volvo, SAAB, VW,
Audi, BMW, Voith and others so is a one stop shop for
all European cars.
They seem to think it works for everything, but I can't see Land Rover in the list:
EUROPEAN PERFORMANCE: ZF 4, 5 and 6
speed autos, Mercedes 4, 5 and 7 speed autos,
Aisin Warner FWD autos such as used in Holden,
Volvo, SAAB, VW, Audi, BMW and others so is a one

“step-type†transmissions. It may be used where
the below manufacturer part numbers are quoted:
AUDI/VW G052162A BMW 8322 9407807
BMW 8322 9407765 JAGUAR JLM 20238

MERCEDES 001 989 2203 (MB 236.11)
CITROEN Z 00169756/PR 9376.22
PEUGEOT Z
But I don't think it meets the industry standard for The ZF boxes in the D3/4:
Penrite SIN ATF meets or exceeds the performance
requirements of:
GM DEXRON-IIIH Ford
MERCON-V/SP
ZF TE-ML-14C Toyota T-IV/WS

at 100 oC 8.3
Viscosity Index 178

Brookfield Viscosity, cP

Thicker viscosity may be OK (in fact may be better) when always running at high temp but it seems to be causing problems with the D3.
"Now I find this MOST interesting because you obviously have
not been supplied with "flash ZF oil" at this price. When Norto
refilled his trans last year and used an inappropriate oil , the
ZF control module failed ( ZF said the wrong oil type causes
this to happen quite quickly ) within a few weeks , but you're
still going strong ........" “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Both of the largest independent LR repairers in Sydney said they use Penrite SIN ATF when I rang them a couple of weeks ago. Yet a highly respected auto gearbox repairer (that has serviced many dozens of this box in European cars) said they would not use anything other than the genuine ZF Lifeguard 6 ATF. He also said he would prefer using the alloy sump with separate filter - which is now available from ZF. From a warranty perspective, I think the auto transmission repairer has a good point: ZF can't complain about the sump being the wrong shape, or the separate filter being wrong - seeing they made it!

I did a lot of research on this (see my post here http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic46311.html ) and found the PetroCanada Duradrive meets and exceeds the Shell M1375.4 spec used from new by LR. PetroCanada must have an Aussie distributor somewhere over there. It's much cheaper. My research also turned up that Dexron 6 is definitely not the right spec so beware of that one. There are actually very few that meet the right spec for the ZF box. I have the spec sheet PDF's if you would like me to email them to you. PM me your email address if so. Looks like the best and safest one to go for is the ZF one: ZF Lifeguardfluid6
Not the cheapest but a lot better than OEM.
According to spare part number of vehicle manufacturer:
ZF Lifeguardfluid6 (ZF No. S671 090 255)
=> AML Oil No. 4G4319A509/AA/S
=> Audi /VW Oil No. G 055005 A1 / A2 / A6
=> Bentley Oil No. PY112995PA
=> BMW Oil No. 8322 0142516
=> Hyundai Oil No. 040000C90SG
=> Jaguar Oil No. Jaguar Fluid 8432
=> Land Rover Oil No. TYK500050
=> Maserati Oil No. 231603
