Not covered by insurance?? Some policies cover sunroofs as window glass so it's just your excess to shell out.

His wallet is hefty enough to break a glass roof - £700 is but a trifle.

Fixed roof glass (not sunroof) is covered on insurance as a window
Can confirm this is true with mine too (they would also cover the sunroof apparently!), though they insisted on going the local dealer's route for getting the replacement part and almost 7 weeks later I'm still driving around with a cracked roof

I was cleaning my car the other day and noticed a stone crip in my glass roof.
Does anyone know if this is covered in the same way as a chipped windscreen, as in the insurance cover it through Autoglass with no excess to pay??
I thought the glass on the roof would have been different/stronger to the type the used on the windscreen so didnt bother me too much but after reading this I'm not too sure.
Thanks in advance

(TLO and bigdave combined would have had it in Greece in less than a week, and for much less than the dealer has quoted me for the part alone)
in all fairness biz, you are in greece,, and i'm sure you know as well as i do, the only way to get anything done there is to shout REAL loud..
and even then it;s going to to take time,,,,
give it another month and update us.. one wife.......livid

how true! But it is getting ridiculous now
To think it could all have been sorted weeks ago if the insurers where happy for me to bring the part independently... (but still fit at main dealers of course!)
To top it all, I don't quite know who's taking the p!$$, LR in Greece or LR in the UK; they've had lots of parts deliveries since, I know the parts manager at the garage has put the order in, so it's either the importer or LR UK who just don't bother...
To come back to topic though, the glass is apparently a "structural" element, and as such is supposed to be toughened more than the windscreen. I think they also mentioned there's more layers in the "sandwich" that form the roof glass lamination. In the 7 weeks of constant exposure to 35+ degrees and direct sunlight, the crack appears the same size, and the outer and inner layers still feel smooth (i.e. the crack has not gone through all the layers). One can deduce that without exposing to hard shocks and very sudden temperature changes it could very well be driven for a while... how long, I'll let you know in a month or two ==> Guide - Inexpensive AV Modification

I'd expect it should be in the region of £650-£900 depending on how much your dealer/indy charges per hour.

got mine done this week. Two days to get the part. third one they have done this month. Had it overnight to allow to dry before replacing lining. Dealer strips out and replaces, but Glass company install the glass. Dealer estiimated total cost £900. Had to pay excess of £75, insurance paid the rest. d4 HSE
