None (I would have thought) would cover friction material such as clutches or brake pads/discs.

True DSL, but Discos are the only vehicle I know of that have clutch problems at low mileage.
Brake pads I can cope with ....

Agreed but that is a reflection on LR, not warranty companies. Apart from the problems specific to D3s, s'pose they would argue that going through clutches would either be a driver issue (riding the clutch) or the manufacture/design (made from cardboard), either way is it reasonable for the warranty company to cover that??

I will not make any comment about auto boxes other than there is plenty things to go wrong in them as well and its more costly that a clutch
