Strange suspension fault

Hi,

Nearly everyday, I get a "suspension default" when driving. The car will then lower and get very stiff. Then the default will desapear and the car go back to normal height. Of course, a way to avoid this is to turn off the engine and back on even without stopping the car.

I have checked the dtc codes with my BAS interface and I get this :

P2199
P0402
P0401

U0138
U0121
U0101
U0151
U0416

Would you have any ideas about what is going on with the car?

Thanks.

I have tried to erase the DTC codes, but I still had two "suspension default" incident on my way to work (5 km !).

The first ones are EGR faults.

The rest of the network errors (the "U" codes) I'd need to look up, but there's quite a few of them which, if all related to the suspension, may suggest broken wires or something like that.

It's a shame you don't have the final byte of the fault code which could give more info...

sure P2199 is EGR related? I've always noted it as "Intake Air Temperature 1/2 Correlation" and is possibly something to do with air-flow sensor ?
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."

Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

Maybe even something simple like the rear harness plug not properly fitted to the suspension ecu. That plug has the canbus and the 2 rear height sensors (apart from anything else). Loosing 2 height sensors will cause a drop to the bumpstops and loosing the canbus would cause network errors.

First, thanks for your help.
I now realize I may have done something that has damaged a wire or a sensor: I wanted to see if the vehicle would seat on it's 32" wheels if I empty all air from the system. I did it. I released all air from the system and the vehicle sat on it's wheels. Then I put air back in it.

This may have damaged a wire or sensor.

Where should I look to check that ?

Did you disconnect any electrical connector in the process of emptying the air? The only vulnerable sensor wire is behind the front left wheel because a cable pulls away from its clip holding it to the chassis, although that wouldn't normally cause your type of fault.

I didn't. I used my Faskit system to empty the system.
Where is the suspension ecu ?

Its high up on the driver's A-pillar and has 4 plugs connected across the bottom. The forward-most one if RHD and rear-most one if LHD has the canbus wires and the rear sensor wires but you would ensure all 4 are properly home once there.

I have anothere strange symptom: sometimes, when I want to go in parking position (lowest). The car will start to lower but then go into super extended mode. Don't know if there is a relation. Shocked

when you remove compressor cover
there are two pipes at the back of the compressor
try to disconnect them and oprate the suspension and check if you can drop suspension down
dont be afraid if can hear a loud whistle when suspension is moving (silencer will be disconnected)
if suspension operates normaly check pipes for blockage etc
remember that the pipes you are interested are at the back of the compressor (rear left wheel area)
