New LED Daytime Running Light + Xenon Lighting Upgrade

For those who have seen my post on the aftermarket HID kit I have installed on my Disco 4 it seems sadly that I need to take them out again, technically they are not road legal. I am gutted because they look and perform perfectly, it is a top quality product and a great pity to have to remove them.

I should have checked the small print at HIDS4U when I bought them. Cannot in anyway fault the product it is first class.

So next question comes up about fitting Land Rover Xenon's with daytime LED lights.

Upon checking Land Rover can supply and fit the new lights without any problem, BUT they wont switch them on for me as this needs to be done with a computer to access the vehicles software for activation.

Can anyone throw any "light" on the subject if there is a reputable company that will do this work for me and at the same time warranty the work on the computer.

LR have advised it would not alter my vehicles warranty in terms of engine, gearbox, etc etc even the lights but it would not cover if the computer malfunctioned for any reason...

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Saltydog,
I purchased genuine Xenons from the dealer I bought the car from (decent discount) and got Hamish at Inverness 4x4 Centre to enable them in the CCF. Quick and painless.
Well worth the upgrade. As far as warranty goes, the lights if bought new will have a years anyway. All they do is tick a box to tell the ccf that you have the xenons fitted which allows for the larger in rush current. I has no other effect on the car.
Any more questions PM me.

Saltydog - Why were they not road legal? (This may answer my next question about how they can sell stuff for the road if it's not road legal).

I assume they dont have the "RL" tag on the glass which is needed to be legal.

They also need to be self adjusting for height

Xenon head lights have to be self adjusting, otherwise they are illegal. Have you ever driven towards someone with an aftermarket xenon kit fitted, it's quite harsh on the eyes.

While we're talking Xenons. I'm looking at purchase a Disco 4 SE that has the halogens fitted. If I sourced the xenons here in Aus (or from someone in the UK), is there anyway I can activate them myself? I ask as obviously i'm down under, but i'm also a fair way from any capital city.

With the D3/D4 the self levelling is taken care of by the air suspension so there is no need for a separate levelling system within the lamp as is the case for conventionally sprung cars.
Just so long as your D3/4 HAS air suspension of course.

I think the problem with a lot of the aftermarket kits to replace halogen bulbs with a Xenon "equivalent fit" is that the beam pattern, being formed by the shape of the reflector in conjunction with an appropriate bulb, with cheap HID's is so often not the case, resulting in excessive "overspill" glare that you don't get with a proper projector system that always used with OEM Xenons.
