Hi All, My Disco has just done 4500km, and when I got home from a drive, I noticed the smell of burning oil. After a check, found oil under the car, all the way along, and also dots on the rear window. Did some more checked and found it to be a very clean oil, compared to the engine oil (black). Any ideas, I worried its a damaged front diff.

How far along the car is the oil visible? it's unlikely to be a damaged front diff. as it's protected, although there has been one failure of a front diff. documented on here...
Has the transfer box suffered any damage? Also check the gearbox oil level to eliminate that from the list of possibles

My rear diff gave up and that covered the underneath and tailgate with oil and because it was on the exhausts there was a smell of hot oil Pot Noodle Challenge Winner 2011

Ah, forgot about that feature. ATF could be quite clear. On my last TD5 I had a major leak near the transmission oil cooler where one of the pipes attached. Sprayed ATF everywhere, engine bay, underneath, sides, back window, cars behind me, etc. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Its a diesel, and a Auto. the rear diff looks ok, but its from the front, just below the front diff, Have checked the brack and power steering fluid, completly different, more runny, so not good, rang Land rover up, a truck is on itway to take it back to the dealer (450km away), so will never know.

The plot thicken. received a phone call today from my dealer, say the oil was due to a the front diff been over filled . I have now askered the guys to take it for a 20km drive to see if it still leaks (the correct amount of oil has now been placed into the diff), the diff was only overfilled by 50-100mls . I have to ring them tomorrow for the next episode.

good to know it wasn't damage then
seems LR have thought to build in an early warning system (oil on the exhaust) to cope with such situations
