Never be misguided by renewing with the same company 'as you have been with them for years' Like banks, loyalty means nothing to these firms, shop around, try the comparison websites, you will same £££s. Watch your existing company dont 'auto renew' you and then try and charge you a cancellation fee when you tell them you have found a much cheaper quote.

Comparison sites rarely ever get the cheapest prices for me, for any car I've ever owned. D3 should be due to renewal in a month or two, but last year it cost ~ £320-ish IIRC, and that was as a third car (ie matching my NCB)... hoping it's not going to shoot up by that much for this year.

I was re-quoted last year by my insurers Kwik Fit £580 which was an increase of £200, I found one £200 cheaper on a comparison website with guess who - Kwik fit I rang them and they gave me it again for the same as the previous year

Timely thread for me - My insurance is up at the end of this month
I'm currently with DirectLine and their postal renewal they sent me is £540.60
Entered same details to RAC and it comes up with £582
Entered same details to Admiral and it come up with £755
Via Go Compare, Swiftcover comes in at £467.93
On the Swiftcover website it comes in at £448.95
Just tried to call DirectLine to see what they can do to match but their offices have just closed
One for the morning.

I always have had to phone NFU and complain that they have put up the cost. They always blame it on "a new quoting system", then when I tell them how much i could get insurance for, they reduce the price considerably. Well they have done for the past 2 renewals.

Go on moneysavingexpert
They have a checklist of insurance companies/comparison site so that you cover all your bases.
Sometimes insurance companies (e.g. Direct Line) don't subscribe to the comparison sites so you need to contact directly.
Top Tip, if you get a price on a comparison site, phone up the company direct and they might even beat their own quote directly (I've got a 50/50 success rate doing this)
This year, it was Swiftcover for me, about £500ish

Last year with Admiral it wasd £407, this years quote (from April 1st) was £728.94 so a few clicks later I get a quote from Aviva for £359. Ok the excess is £100 more, but other than that the cover is identical.

For me because of where I live and my occupation NFU was a no-brainer...Also the likes of Direct Line, Tesco etc etc would not touch the D4 unless it had a tracker fitted, which they did'nt mention until they had qouted me and I noticed it in a small paragraph at the end....Its also good to have the local office on your doorstep.

True... With identical excess to the original Admiral quote, the Aviva quote increased to £408.
