Sat Nav mystery tour
Anyone else had similar problems to this one?
Picked up a trailer from Phoenix in Bridgnorth and decided to come back to Durham via Ludlow and up west then across so set the LR Sat nav for quickest route.
After about 30 mins outside Ludlow we stopped and reset as route and actual place seems odd! Picked quickest route then set off again and within 20 mins the sat nav had us in some town centre. (WTF)
Reset again and checked how the route plan looked--OK so off we go but this time swmbo has road map with her to check on progress---lets just say we gave up listening to the sat nav after it wanted to take us into Mancherster city centre and Sheffield city centre not to mention Leeds. We left it on just for joke value but even when on the M1 it was telling us to take every slip road into each major town we passed.
Malfunctioning? I should bally well coco!
Since then have used it a couple of times but no matter what setting it wants to take you into each town centre you pass.
Obviously this is complete bolleaux! and about as useful as the mpg on the trip monitor!
An upgrade from 08 may be required but I don't want to pay the silly money that LR want to suck out of your wallet.
Or am I missing something that others may know about? apart from the obvious--use a TOMTOM.
CheersThere is no need for panic!

Its not as good as tom tom, but it should not be taking you through every town center. Make sure you have it set to Major roads in the settings screen. If I use mine to navigate me from Stockport to York, it will bypass Manchester using the M60, bypass Leeds on the 62, and will not put me onto the A64 until I have met it via the A1M. I would presume if I picked Shortest route, it would take me through town centers.
Sat nav is great when you don't know where you are going! If you know where you are going, then just leave it on the map screen with no route set. And put your destination in toward the end of the journey.
TMC is indeed a load of rubbish and a complete waste of time IMO. It never gets the traffic delays right, and when you set the dynamic route planning to on, it offers you an alternative without giving you a chance to review it.

The LR sat nav system certainly leaves a lot to be desired, obviously designed by someone with absolutely no sense of direction - so that's what my SWMBO does at work, always wondered Never get mad - get even !!

And a sense of humour
I must admit mine used to be pretty dire but now seems to make much more sense, I'm sure the later map DVD helps but it also sometimes makes me wonder if it has some kind of "learning" going on.
When I continually ignore it's directions and go by a route I know is best, it seems to suggest that route from a progressively earlier stage each time.
I tend to set a route most times I go any distance as I find it useful for getting a reasonable ETA and distance.Clive

D4 HDD Sat Nav is not perfect BUT obviously a lot better then the D3 system - I should love to see the ability to add things like POIs etc to the D4 unit BUT only the dealer has access LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF
Happened to us in Belgium , kept taking us back to where we started, does that sometimes I've found if you delete each time you go somewhere , then it behaves and actually does as it should ,

Mines an 09, so should be pretty close up to date, and it has one built in LR feature. It ingnores the A34 down from the M40 to Southampton - now I'm wondering, is this to keep us off this bit of raod so that all the LR transporters heading down to Southampton docks can have an easier journey?
