fitting extra long bright roof rails |
|
Hi
I have a D4 XS on order for delivery mid may and would like to fit the bright long roof rails myself. Does anyone have any tips/info/ thoughts on this? Ideally I would like to know what is involved and how difficult it is? Simply bolt on or you have to cut it about etc.
Thanks

I have these, though I confess, they were specified and fitted by the dealer. However, having looked at since and the instructions, this is a pretty easy job. They bolt directly to existing mounting points and there are decent instructions.
Plus you should be able to sell on the standard ones that come with the car.

Thanks for this info. I have seen a good deal on them online so I shall buy them and fit myself based on the info you have sent.
One queston. Does the black rubber strip sitting in the grove running from front to back of the vehicle stay or do you think it comes out?
Thanks for this richard b

You can look up the LR instructions on the owner section of topix
http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/se...;view=FitH
You will need the rubber strip and make a hole in it for the front fixing.
On the XS you should also have the standard short rails.

Does anyone know if you can get the long roof rails in black now, as a spare parts, because the LandMark comes with long black rails now?
Thank for any info in advance,

. . . and if they also fit the D3? A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Fitted the longer ally roof bars to my D4 GS, very easy with a set of stepladders. Took 30 minutes. Sold the black ones for £90. Looks a lot better and now I can spot the car in the car parks

The Landmark roof rails are an option on 2012MY so I would guess they are now standard parts. Give TLO (The Large One) a call (if you don't know him call Yeovil LR and ask to speak to Nick and ask for the disco3 forum discount - top bloke, good service and great prices).

Definitely they are more noisy. It belongs to the free space between the front roof and the rails end.
When you have strong side wind then you will hear a whistling noise. Without the side wind it's possible to drive with 180 km/h (speed limit) without any noise.
One time the plastic part at the end of the rail "vanished" on the Autobahn by 140 km/h.
