Performance Intercooler for Disco4?
Hi there,
I wonder if anyone knows if it is true that modern diesel engines such as the TDV6 in the Disco 4 don't need a bigger+better intercooler, that they wouldn't profit from it in any case. If this is so - why not? The underlying technics are the same and apparently the car DOES need at least a small one, otherwise they wouldn't put one in!
And, despite all searching, I could only find aftermarket Intercoolers for the Disco3, not the Disco4. Would they do any good to the Disco 4 and, more important would they actually fit in?

Yes, I know that site. I'm sure that it's a good one but it doesn't list the intercooler for the Disco4 - just for the Disco 3.

Wouldn't help as I don't have a Disco 3 to compare with.
Apart from not having a Disco 3, I don't even have my Disco4 yet - it will only be delivered in some weeks. But I need to order all gear early enough as all will be chipped to Africa together with the car.

Just looking at it, D4 (3 ltr) IC is quite a bit bigger than the D3 IC. I'll try to take some pics later.

The D4 3.0 intercooler is pretty much full height like the after market D3 intercooler, the D4 also has 2 input holes in the bottom for both the turbos and a single output at the top that connects to the inlet box at the front of the engine.
D3 Left, D4 Right

I wonder if you could fit a D4 intercooler to a D3 I know there are two input pipes but you could just block one off, I wonder if it would make the D3 go any better JE Remap, De-cat, Blanked EGR's, Allisport intercooler, Samco intercooler hoses, D4 rear lights, A bar, Big spot lights, Front headlight guards, 20'' Stormer wheels,

I did kind of look into this as the D4 intercooler is a lot cheaper than the aftermarket ones, I think it would be more involved than just swapping the intercooler over and blocking off one of the bottom holes as the i couldn't see the space in the D3 for the top pipe to come through, in the D4 the radiator is different allowing the pipe to come through. I also couldn't determine the pipe sizes from the turbos etc.
The inlet box at the front of the engine (6K770) is the same part no for the D3 & D4, so the top pipe should be the same diameter.
Ideally you would need to strip down both a D3 & D4 and measure up.
