WTD - Advise on D4
It's been a while since my last post. Did not have much to contribute, as I sold my D3 to Doc, i would reckon almost a year ago.
I have not been Land Roverless, and SWMBO has been driving the D2 Facelift.
I am however coming to the end of my house construction, and have itchy feet.
I am looking at a SDV6 D4, either SE or HSE, and would be looking at Novating it. I also qualify for the LRA Corporate program which gives me free services for 3 year/100,000km, and premium carpets etc. etc.
What do you good people out there have in terms of D4's, and what are the real benefits of HSE over SE, considering came from an HSE with all the fruit.
Are there any benefits getting quotes directly from Finance Companies for the vehicle, or should I stick with the Dealership. I did get some fleet discount from them directly, but just want to tap into some experience from other Aus. members.
Thanks,
Pierre
BTW - Nice to remember my login. Why is the fear of long words called hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia?
Went through all this when I ordered my D4. As you are in the west you should really tick the rear air-con (unless you have no intention of putting anyone in the back). Even then - its great attribute for WA conditions and will be on re sale for anyone else in WA who may buy it in the future.
We went the HSE in the end - once we optioned both vehicles to be the same (sat nav, elect diff, rear air and RSE) the SE was only a fraction less and had just a couple of extras like elect seats and we didn't have to tick so many extras boxes for the HSE. We go the servicing etc as part of the corporate package as well, but insisted on rubber mats (we have 4 kids!). it took almost 6 months and finally delivered 20th Dec!
It's a tough choice and not cheap cars - don't know if an HSE will have better resale than the SE?
Cheers
BTW first post for some time - first since the move to Melbourne (ow and when we knew we were moving to Melb, we rang up and added the cold climate pack to the order (just in time before it went to assembly)! - D4 HSE with rear diff lock, RSE and rear end warmers. Adding bits is fun....getting out there is more

G'Day,
I took the quick and easy option and Traded my old D2 in for a year old D4 SE. Only had to wait 4 days to pick it up.
Guys told me that the SE hold thier values better than the HSE, I suppose I will not know that as a fact for at least another 5 years
Personally I would have liked an HSE as that is what my D2 was, but in reality I don't believe I will miss some of the features.
Oh and I do love it, averaged 7.5l /100 going home from work last night over a 43km journey and that is with the 2.7l engine.Discovery 4 2.7 SE

Java TD5 HSE - Gone but not forgotten.
Java V6 Freelander - Had fun in it.

Hi Doc,
Did you also replace the 2nd row seats? If not, how difficult is it to access the 3rd row?
Best Wishes,

I went a demo SE with the fruit and it was still $15k cheaper than a HSE. Would love the HSE purely for the arm rest and electric seats.
Just see what deals you get on both models.
Oh re: rear air con, not sure if you need it, I've done a lot of long trips up north and sat in the back many times as we swapped drives. My wife and friends both found it very comfortable till the point we turned the rear air con vents off as it was too cold. That said MAYBE if you had people in the third row, rear air con would be nice, but other than that, I wouldn't bother.Dorko

When going for a novated lease Do Not go through the finance companies prefered dealer. They get kick backs. Go to dealers yourself and get the best price then play them off against each other.
When you are ready to buy decide on what youwant to pay and go to your favourite dealer at the end of the month. They will take a sale just to get it in the monthly figures.
And don't insure through the lease company either, it will not cover off road and will onlt cover the pay out figure which will be a lot less than what it is worth.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I did not need to replace the second row of seats and they were the correct "tilt forward" versions which allowed access to the rear area. Old Salt very kindly drew a template of were to cut the carpet and all the bolts holes were already factory-drilled. The holes are not however tapped and you have to tap the threads yourself. The only headache was having to remove the two rear side panels to get access to the bolt holes to tap them for installing the seatbelts. One cannot tap these holes with the panels in place.

The entire job took most of the day as it is ackward working in the confines of the boot area with a pretty heavy set of seats.
