Temperature Difference between Driver/Passenger side

For some reason I can't get the Drivers side air vents (front and rear) to blow air as cold as on the passenger side. If I put both dials to max-cooling (or at any other cooling position) the passenger side blows much cooler air than the driver side. I've noticed this on a number of recent journey's and its quite maddening.

I can only think that the cool/warm air blending system is malfunctioning, where is this and how easy is it to get to this to check?

or any other ideas welcomed.

It could be a blend stepper actuator.. carry out a self test to verify if a fault exists by carrying out the following:

Quote:
Distribution motor self-test

The motor and flap operation can be checked using the on-board distribution motor self-test function.

The self-test can be initiated by pressing and holding the ECON and RECIRC buttons while turning the ignition switch to the ON position.

The control module will then compare the current motor position with the values stored in the module and will indicate an error by flashing the ECON LED (light emitting diode).

If there are no errors, the LED will go out and the system will function normally.

To confirm that there are no errors, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, then back to the ON position.

Observe the operation of the programmed defrost LED.

If there are errors present, the programmed defrost LED will flash and the system will attempt to calibrate itself

Most likely to be a failure of one of the stepper motors, I've had two go faulty and I have replaced them. I've done a manual about how to strip the dashboard to replace them (created this weekend just gone) but have been unable to put it my gallery for some reason.

PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you.

Thumbs Up

Thanks Nick, PM sent.

DG, when I run the diags as described the ECON lights flashes as soon as the ignition is moved and stays flashing until the other diags finish and the fans start up normally and the light goes out.

When I turn ignition off and back on the defrost LED stays off.

Does this mean no errors, or the fact that the Econ light flashing initially indicate that there is?

If I'm reading you right is seems to reporting an error on ECON but not on defrost LED when cycling the ignition Confused ...one for the real techies methinks Smile
