Road Tax

Hi All
Just out of curiousity has everyone noticed the sneaky road tax rises I thought it was meant to be frozen what the bloody hell are the government playing at did they think we wouldnt notice its now £460.00 for 12 months and if you have an older D3 its now £260.
I think people have now had about enough of this crap its high time we all did something about this it isnt a fair system and would be better if it was done on a scale
Say for instance

0ltr to 2.0ltr £100

2.0 to 3.0 £200

3.0ltr upwards £400
Any vehicle that uses the road should pay road tax and should not be excempt whether they are electric or not does the powers that be not realise that if we all end up with electric vehicles there will be no road tax therefore no money earned
What does everyone else think
cheers

We already pay a tax based on usage and how economical our vehicles are - it's called fuel duty and in all honesty, it's probably the fairest way.

Trouble is though, it's just not enough for the greedy bu66ers that set the rules and spend the collected cash and whatever you or I or any other driver says, they will always find a way to justify it.

Mike totally agree.....but as you say,if we all switch to electric they will just find some other way of bleeding us road users dry......subsidies for wind turbines are already drying up...won't be long before electric car incentives go the same way...
Many years ago there were very few diesels, and the duty was much smaller.....then we started buying diesels so guess what ?...yup.... they whacked the duty up to such an extent that diesel is now more expensive than petrol....
Successive Governments have decided it is the job of road users to pay for the NHS,unemployment benefit and the like...and they now rely on these hidden taxes to avoid the big, dangerous, headline-grabbing tax increases such as an increase in income tax.......
Fair..??...of course not....Inevitable??.... undoubtedly......
Would the French stand for it...no chance....will we..?.....probably Rolling Eyes

I think its a total load of Censored to be honest with you.

I may own ( i dont ) a little 700cc super mini that does 80 mpg but i might drive that vehicle 20000 miles per year....whilst my next door neighbour has a 3ltr Range Rover but only drives 2000 miles a year...whos poluting the atmosphere more? If my supermini emits less that 100g/km then its still free. They need to stick it on the fuel...that way even people who think its ok to drive around with no road tax will have to pay.

i know Sad

i had a 320D before the Range and was loving the tax band!

although as land rover keeps bragging "when the new evoque comes out 2 tax bands £155 or first year free and then £90 a year after"

ill stick to my gas guzzler - i love the MPG because my smile is even bigger than its consumption Wink

Here in Guernsey they abolished road tax a few years ago and put it onto the fuel. Our petrol/diesel used to be half that of the UK's now it's only slightly behind. Probably a fair method - the more you drive the more you pay.

Not fair on those of us with uneconomical cars though

There's only two certainties: Taxes and death. Now death isn't something to enjoy or indeed look forward to, but at least it's a constant. You die - that's it! But taxes.....Death of a thousand cuts!!

Hope that cheeers you up. Very Happy

Did anybody read in one the papers t'other day about the fact that so far fuel tax income is i think £640million down on expected revenue due to people driving less.

Made me smile, so if we all stop driving for a month or two and not fuel up we could bankrupt the government oh what fun we could have.

the above figures could be wrong as i have a sieve for a brain.
