Windscreen chips - can you fix them on a heated screen? |
|
As the title says really - given my windscreen some attention with the Rain-X today, and noticed a couple of very small chips in the centre of the screen. They are purely on the exterior - nothing running through to the interior at all. I'd not even noticed them from the inside.
Never had chips "filled" by the likes of AutoGlass before, but is it something they can do to a heated screen? They are very minor - but dont want them to develop... And knowing how much a front screen will probably cost, I'd rather avoid claiming for that on the insurance in weeks/months to come!!! 747_JK

Some have had problems with one or two elements failing. I've had two repairs and no problems. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I've also had two repairs on a D3 heated screen which continued to work as it should.

Perfectly do-able...
I had a long term demonstrator from LR (just over 4 months... don't ask!) and managed to pick up a mahooosive chip in the heated screen.
Concerned that LR would be looking for a replacement screen, we turned to our local windscreen chap who did the repair - he was absolutely confident that this would be OK and that there was no damage to the heating elements. D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY

on the size & depth of the chip......according to the guys who do screens locally here
havent had any on the D3 & hope I dont
But had a really nasty awkward one right in myy line of site on the last D2
it was filled by autoglass & it did almost make the ding invisible.....I was told that it was borderline "change the screen" as some are failed at MOT
It didnt get that far as another stone hit the top of the screen onthe maotorway & a huge top to bottom crack developed (nowhere near the original ding)
The guys that told me "size & depth" thing........did fix a lump out the roof windeow on my D3....said it was worth a try & didnt relish the task of changing this glass evidentally a big task that is very awkward BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics

I had a chip on my D3 - wish I never had it repaired it made it looked worse than before!! Heated screen worked fine, If I still have my D3 I would have smashed it with a hammer and paid the excess for a new one!! 2010/60 Discovery 4 XS Zermatt Silver - Privacy Glass, Timed Climate (with remote), Voice, 4x4 screen, Bong on lock/un-lock (Pete BellAutos)

Hi
Had to replace my screen 2 weeks ago, as had about 5 chips in and one had spread, the cracks went from top to bottom, once it had been replaced and when it down no windcreen wipers worked on auto.
Call back autoglass who fitted new sensor, all is well now. braunyboy
