It's not as if LR have any control over content on here
Martin - my concern is quite simple: by allowing dealers to post openly do you not implicitly lose some of the impartiality?
You are obviously correct in the fact that LR do not have control of content -however content can be managed and manipulated (example: how many times has a thread gone completely off topic and the root cause of the thread has gone unanswered?), but I have faith in the moderators and the users of the forum to ensure this doesn't happen (too often)!
Anyway, the purpose of my posts was not to have a dig or a pop at individual or manufacturer alike, the purpose was to add my concerns, of which I think have been addressed and managed.
To close my D3 is the best vehicle, and this forum is the best source of information - with or without dealers!

if thats the case then why have the vote at all? as I see it its about trust and honesty. IF someone is open about their connections to dealers and LR then thats great, by being open they are trusting us with that knowledge and in turn would gain my trust they are here without any agenda....and if they did make comments it could then be viewed in context.
Im not saying they should say exactly where which department or dealer, just declare if they are a dealer or connected to LR professionaly.
You should remember also that the words of those who have such connections would actually carry more weight in certiain situations .e.g. technical discussions. 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

But we do that so efficiently anyway. I'm sure some questions qo unanswered as we do not know the answer (e.g the new hack code for the latest sat nav disc!!!!) but we do not want the person asking the question to feel we are ignoring him. It's our little bit of insanity amongst the quest for answers & we do it very well with or without dealers!

I would argue the opposite - if I didn't allow them to post then the site would become less impartial as the forum would no longer be open to all and there would be censorship of one aspect of the D3 community which would have a lot to contribute.

This is simply a product of the friendly and open nature of the forum, and not a result of management or manipulation - in my experience too many car related web sites are strictly on-topic only and are extremely stuffy and dull as a result. I prefer that people feel they can 'chat' as they would face-to-face in a social situation rather than stick rigidly to an agenda which is a rather clinical and business-minded way of thinking.
The majority of these topics are tidied up fairly quickly, and if you feel that a thread has become derailed and not cleaned up sufficiently then the reporting system is always available.

I dont want to vote for either option given at present and we are already 124 views into voting
DD - vote as it stands, or not, as the case may be.
It will become obvious fairly quickly whether a member is connected to a dealership, however if someone wishes to participate purely as an informed enthusiast and pass on knowledge then they should be allowed to, even if they don't disclose that they work for a dealership.
I'm sure that some members on here have connections to dealers through family or friends - in fact most of us will have had contact with a dealer as owners or prospective owners. Some have even recommend dealers that they've had good experiences with so it could be argued that there is a conflict of interest there straightaway.. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Peeps are surely free to post whatever they choose within the rules of the site ....it is for others to judge the credibility of statements or opinions in posts and either agree or offer an alternative stance.

Of course dealers should be allowed to be members of DISCO3, and post. It is a public, open access forum, as Martin has said. Anyone is free to join, whether they are a D3 owner, a prospective owner, an enthusiast or even if the are not an owner and have no intention of being one.
There have been dealer employees, posting in a private capacity, on the site for some time now.
Of course, the non-commercial standards will be maintained, and anyone, dealer or otherwise, who steps over that line will be brought the right side of it again pronto.
An increasing number of dealers turn to DISCO3 for information, believe it or not, and the current flush of new registrants appear to be more on the sales than technical side of the dealerships. It is worth remembering that, on the whole, though I can think of a few notable exceptions, those people who own and drive a D3 probably know a great deal more about it than those people who do the selling. (And in some cases, more than the service people too..... !)
One of the beauties of a website such as DISCO3 is that it is very easy to identify the wallies and bullshitters.
