Breakdown cover for France |
|
Going to be driving over to france for the first time in the disco and would like to know what people do about breakdown cover.
I am a member of the AA so thought I would get a quote they want £91.99 which Includes parts and labour benefit up to £500 at a cost of £34.50.
Is this about the prices I will be looking at, are there others you can recommend to get quotes from.
you advice to a newbie over seas driver would be great.
Cheers

Is your car out of LR warrenty, as that gives european cover?
I use Mondial (or is it Europassist now), as I've the caravan on the back. 72 quid for car and caravan, which includes repatriation, hotel cover, roadside work/recovery, etc and is valid for 7days before travelling (if I recall correctly)

John ov - try your local Insurance Brokers as they may have access to the Scheme via "Broker Direct & RAC" at around £65 for a years cover which includes homestart, roadside recovery and nationwide recovery both in the UK and Europe.
Broker Direct (tel 01204 600 200) would give you the name of their nearest agent to you.

Don't rely on the on line price, I rang The AA after reading the on line price and when I spoke to a real life human they gave me single visit European cover for free. This was just last month I started off with nothing and Ive still got most of it left.

whatever you pay its worth it.
we have a cataclysmic wheel bearing failure last year in Narbonne and if it wasnt for LR Assistance/AA it would have been a complete nightmare - they arranged and paid for towing off the motorway, Taxis, Hotels and did all the liason and translation.
Ive just paid £128 for 12months multi journey cover and well worht ever penny.
it costs 140 Euros just to to be towed off the Toll Motorways Duncan

Does anyone here use ADAC, the german recovery company?. It was mentioned in this forum, and I was thinking about joining, espceially as it would also cover me here as well. "...I'm so broke I can't even pay attention..."

Just gave AA a ring and they wouldn't budge on the online price, maybe got the wrong person.
Going to get a few more quotes.

I too am off to France in a couple of weeks. Have AA cover here in UK through bank and thought it would be just a small top-up for european cover....NOT
Anyway, shopped around and if you become a member of CSMA you can then get annual cover thorugh Brittannia Rescue for under £80. My parents have it already and had to use it in France. Found the whole service excellent.

I have been a member of CSMA and along with it Brittainia Rescue, and on the two occaisons I have had to use it (in the UK) it has been a complete nightmare.
1, Standed half way up a Scottish mountain in sub zero tempretures for almost 4 hours, and finally 'rescued' by a unhelpful stroppy truck driver
2, Following recent accident which imobolised my car, Brittainia 'refused' to offer assistance saying it was my insurance companies 'responsibility'
Now joined the AA Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k
previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !

disco_steve, that sounds absolutely appalling!! Got me worried....and re-thinking now! I wonder whether this can be a general; problem with most recovery companies as in their service can only be as good as the guy that turns up (eventually in your case!!)
