FYI
Just read in 4x4 Australia that there are no plans to bring the 8 speed gear box or rotary gear box selector to Australia in the 2012/ Revised Disco (or RR). Some subtle internal and external changes, and updated Multi media......
Australia will get the 8 speed gbox, but no immediate plans to do so. So we will have to live with the 6speed for now.
Wonder if the revised power changes to the 3ltr will come? Or only come with the 8 speed? D4 HSE with rear diff lock, RSE and rear end warmers. Adding bits is fun....getting out there is more

Would seem strange that if the 8 speed gearbox is going to be the standard fitting, that Landrover would then fit the 6 speed for the Australian market. Wonder what the thinking is behind that !!

I reckon it is a supply chain issue.....keeping the 8-speeders for Europe and US 1st.....it will happen in Oz eventually I bet.......remember 5 years ago Ford denied the 2.7 TDV6 engine would ever be used in Oz.....they couldnt keep up with demand!!

Fine with me if the 8 speed doesn't come to the Aussie market, I won't be exporting my $80k+ to the land rover market either.
I was holding out for the mid life upgrades (to D4 that is ), but the longer I hold out, the greater the chance something else will become more attractive. 2012 MY13 SDV6 SE D4 Ipanema Sand with Almond leather
2012 TDI Passat - they reckon the DSG is crap, I reckon it's awesome

More likely to be linked to emissions requirements which ISTR are a stage behind the Euro 5 standard .....why should LR put an 8 speed in if they don't have to ? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Agree, plenty of 6 speeds on pallets that need to be utilised. Small Aussie market is a good market for running out "older" units with little demand for newer tech/upgrades.....unluess Toyota or others get moving on the australian market with 'sweet' options
Happy with the 6 speed D4 however. D4 HSE with rear diff lock, RSE and rear end warmers. Adding bits is fun....getting out there is more

Has anyone actually driven an 8 speed D4 yet? I wouldn't go out and order one until I could personally compare it to the six speed. Even with the small power increase, there's still a chance it might not be all positive, especially as the motivation is emissions requirements. It might be an advantage to let other people discover it first as more doesn't always mean better!
(as anyone running Lion will tell you)

Probably about money and supply line quantities but may be a mistake by LR as the new Toerag has eight speed and is looking very sharp on price. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

That box has been in the 4.4 Full-Fat for about a year now. No complaints that I've come across. I also drove the new 2.2 Jag XF with the 2wd version and it's nice to drive. Smooth changes and keeps the engine in the power band. Motorway cruising gives slightly lower revs than SWMBO's 3.0 XF which has the older 6 speed.

BUT has it been tested in Australian conditions were LONG hours of constant high speed driving (100+) whilst towing a camper? I suspect not and I suspect that the increasing number of rear diff failures here in Australia are for the same reason. Fine for towing relatively short distances in Europe but borderline for here! regards
