Thought this section was looking a bit empty!!! - so here goes for starters! Has anyone else noticed that with Bi-Zenon equipped cars, the dipped beams (& indeed the main beam on the same unit) is a bright white (almost a slugtly blue white because of the zenon gas) - however on applying main beam this brings on what LR desribe as fill in lights (basically main beam driving lights) but these ae standard H7 halogen lights. These give of a great extra light but the colour is more a warm white/yellow rather than the bright white of the zenon lights. Has anyone tried replacing these bulbs - I'm thinking along the lines of the Osram Silverstar or similar. Would these result in a similar pure white for main as for dip beam?

yes it would, but i think it may be illegal. I don't know what the problem is, but I find the D3 lights are fantastic on main beam, they turn night into day compared with any other car I have ever had.

You'll struggle to match the blueish tinge of the xenons but changing to a premium Osram or Phillips "blue" bulb will improve the visual colout look - although you may notice a drop in actual light output.

Whilst on the topic of headlights, can anyone confirm that the headlamp unit needs to come out to adjust the dipping for driving in countries that drive on the other side of the road? Tried feeling for the adjuster with the lamps in situ, but no joy (is it because they're xenons?)
Where do LR get the idea that this is easier than a couple of black decals on the front of the lenses? Maybe better for a trip of a month or more, but not for a long weekend.
thanks,

DrLex, do you have an 'S' version. If so they do not alter, back to the tape.
The Law on Headlamps, there is more, but a bit at a time.
HEADLAMPS (MAIN AND DIPPED BEAM)
Motor vehicles having three or more wheels are required to be fitted with two headlamps (forming a pair) one on each side, which can emit main and dipped beams, in addition main beam headlamps may also be fitted.
Headlamps must be fitted so that the outermost surface of the illuminated area of the lamp is not more than 400mm from the side of the vehicle on the relevant side. They must not be more than 1200mm nor less than 500mm from the ground (measured from the highest or lowest surface of the illuminated areas of the lamp). Where main beam headlamps are fitted independently the outer edges of the illuminated areas must not be closer to the side of the vehicle than the obligatory dipped-beam headlamps.
A dipping mechanism must be incorporated in dipped-beam lamps so that they can be dipped simultaneously to avoid dazzle and no light other than a dipping headlight may be moved by swivelling, deflecting or otherwise while the vehicle is in motion.
Requirements are laid down for the alignment of dipped beam headlamps and for the markings to be shown on them.
Headlamps may emit only a white or yellow light and each headlamp forming a pair must emit the same colour light.
All headlamps must be securely and permanently fixed to the vehicle and each lamp in the pair must be at the same height from the ground and have the same area and shape when lit.
The minimum wattage of a bulb or sealed beam unit must be 30 watts for vehicles first used before 1 April 1986.
Headlamps fitted to vehicles first used from 1 April 1986 must include a circuit closed tell-tale and bear an appropriate approval mark.
Headlamps must be used during the hours of darkness when the vehicle is being driven along a road where street lamps are more than 200 yards apart. They must also be used (if a pair of front fog lamps are not fitted or being used) at any time when visibility is seriously reduced.
Headlamps must be switched off when the vehicle is parked.
Exceptions
Dipped beam headlamps are not required on vehicles having a maximum speed not exceeding 15mph; agricultural vehicles or works trucks first used before 1 April 1986.
Not more than two dipped beam headlamps (forming a pair) must be fitted to vehicles first used from 1 April 1991.
Main beam headlamps are not required on vehicles having a maximum speed not exceeding 25mph; agricultural vehicles or works trucks first used before 1 April 1986.
Any number of main beam headlamps may be fitted.(Schedules 4 and 5)
FRONT FOG LAMPS
Front fog lamps may be fitted to motor vehicles in addition to the obligatory front headlamps and must be not more than 1200mm above the ground. (There are no maximum height requirements for such lamps fitted to agricultural vehicles, road sweepers, airport fire tenders or runway sweepers, industrial tractors, engineering plant or home forces vehicles.)
There are no minimum height requirements.
Fog lamps fitted to vehicles first used from 1 April 1986 must bear the appropriate approval mark.
Fog lamps may emit either a white or yellow light, must be positioned so that they do not dazzle or discomfort to other road users and may only be used in conditions where visibility is seriously reduced.
Note:
1. A pair of front fog lamps may only be used in place of dipped beam headlamps in poor conditions. Where they are fitted the outermost illuminated area of each lamp must be not more than 400mm from the side of the vehicle.
2. Vehicles first used from 1 April 1991 are restricted to a maximum of two front fog lamps.(Schedule 6)
DIM-DIP DEVICE OR RUNNING LAMPS
Motor vehicles first used from 1 April 1987 having a maximum speed exceeding 40mph and which are not fitted with lighting or light signalling devices which satisfy EC Directive 76/756 as amended, must be fitted with either:
(a) a dim-dip device which causes, so far as is practicable, an intensity of between 10 and 20% of the normal dipped beam of headlamps to be illuminated, or
(b) running lamps (not being front position lamps, end-outline marker lamps, headlamps or front fog lamps) being a matched pair of front lamps fitted where front position lamps are normally fitted and capable of emitting white light of an intensity of not less than 200 candelas.
The dim-dip device or running lamps must light automatically whenever the engine is running, or the key is in the normal position for driving the vehicle, main and dipped beam headlamps and foglamps are switched off and the obligatory front position lamps are switched on.(Schedule 3)
I have left the item about front fog lights because so many people fall foul of this reg.

Ah, that'll be it then. Remember, kids, nothing screams poor workmanship like wrinkles in the duct tape.
Poverty-spec strikes again. Sat in the car for 5 minutes trying to get the voice activation of the hi-fi to work before realising it was for the 'phone only. Wish they printed references on these features with an accompanying look-up table for spec, rather than the teeny asterixes (asterices?). Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Try telling to half the drivers around here that, it's trendy to have you front fogs on all the time, light or dark so you can dazzle people at all times of day. Then the really stupid ones turn them off when there is a genuine reason to use them! The police did go through a period of pulling over the fog lamp lovers but don't seem to bother anymore, there again half the police around here don't even bother indicating anymore

We need to be if there's BMW or Merc drivers around. I'm not sure either manufacturer bothers installing indicators anymore as they must know they'll never get used

I thought that most Bimmer, Audi and Jag vehicles had indicators as an option ? Most owners obviously don't tick the box on the order form.
