I have a 2005 D3, Diesel HSE which I purchased second hand 4 years ago and now has 195,000km
Under warranty/extended warranty it had ball joints replaced twice, some bushes, EPB, spare winder and a few other things. Since warranty expired it's been very reliable until recently.
At 160,000 km I put it in for the timing belt to be done, but the LR dealer did not do it right and they broke the engine (sounds like they got the timing wrong and the pistons hit the valves or something) so they rebuilt the engine.
Last 6 months it had the following replaced:
– Exhaust Crossover Pipe
– Alternator
– EAS Compressor
– Diff Pinion Seal
– Drive Belt Tensioner
– Water Pump
With the $75,000 drive away price on a D4 it's made me consider if it's time to change. But having done the maths on what we still owe on the D3 and second hand values, and should break even on finance – we really can't afford the lease on a new one, even at $75k. So leaning towards keeping the D3 for a few more years – but don't want to be unwise if repair costs are going to escalate. I don't tow more than a box trailer, offroad is limited with young kids, and it is now doing low km as my wife drives it locally mostly.
What else goes wrong on a 2005 D3 which I have not already fixed ?
