Virtual cd changer

Have any MY12 D4 owners got any views/comments on the virtual cd changer in the upgraded audio system?

It's a good idea, far more sensible than a multichanger with a stack of CDs, works well, and is, as far as I can see, completely and utterly pointless when I can have ALL my MP3s on a USB stick under the cubby box lid!

Interesting - thanks Martin.

Would I be right in saying that the compression on MP3s on a memory stick would result in (relatively) poorer sound quality than that obtained from CDs loaded into the virtual changer ?

Excuse my ignorance if I've got that wrong......

Why am I asking - I'll get no say in the matter as my two daughters will have their i-touches playing constantly from the minute we pick up our new D4 on Saturday Laughing

Does anyone know what formats are supported on the USB connection?

There are plenty of encoding possibilities better than mp3, e.g. flac lossless or ALAC (apple lossless)
D4 HSE, Active Rear Diff, surround cameras, adaptive xenons, heated steering wheel, TPMS, remote park heating, centre console cooler box
Club MT/R
Club RLD spare wheel protector
Club Sump plate & tree slider
Club Blackvue HD

To be honest, as long as you use high bit rate mp3s and not over compressed ones, I really doubt you will be able to tell the difference in a car system over a cd. My ears certainly can't.

According to TOPIx, "The audio system will play MP3, WMA and AAC files." Whether MP3s on a USB stick will sound better or worse than a CD on the virtual changer of course depends on the quality of the rips. It doesn't give you much clue about what the format used internally is:

Quote:

The unit will play Compact Disc Digital Audio
(CDDA) discs, MP3, WMA, WAV and AAC files.
The CD player will accommodate one disc at a
time but up to 10 CDs can be uploaded to the
virtual store.
Only CDDA discs can be loaded into the virtual
CD store.

Either way, as RichardB suggests, I don't think you're going to be able to tell much difference at 70!
