Gareth, maybe try renting one for a week and see how you get on, there are quite a few places around that do that

That is one of my plans I need to find somewhere that will be happy to rent one, and allow our dog.

Just get a smaller caravan - we tour all over with a 12' caravan and the D3 - 22-23 mpg towing and still the flexibility to use the car as we need it D4 2014

Yes that's one of my options, a nice 2 berth caravan. If I did go the motorhome route, one of the reasons would be to avoid towing. A small moped would be ok.

You just tow it of you want it, the option is there, with a tin tent you have no option, tow it or sleep rough

[quote= i have had both and personally prefer the motorhome, it seems to attract a classier type of person
Find it hard to understand how you can be a "classier type of person" because you have bought a motorhome. What were you the day before, when you still had the caravan? Did perhaps type come before thought when writing that comment.
Having the same model of caravan as Gareth, I may be a little bias and wouldn't want to swap it for a motorhome. If funds permit then perhaps I would have both as there are advantages and drawbacks with using either.
