Transmission rumble when carrying heavy load |
|
I have a 05 disco 3 70,000 miles that when it carrying 4 people has a rumble from the transmission when the car is accellerated hard from standing whilst turning right or left i think rear diff area, BUT fails to make the noise when driver and a passenger only in the front. any body have any ideas why would the carrying wieght make any difference.

Hi Dumbledore, and welcome.
From the symptoms described, I suspect the rear diff. You could try an oil change on it and see if it makes any difference.

The best way to describe this noise is its the same "kind" you get when ABS kicks in, but it comes from the middle of the car,we cannot find excessive play in te transmission i have spoken to a few guys local to me and they have said change the oil in the transfer box then each axle in turn to find out which part it coming from,i will report back with my findings

Hi all i have sorted the problem by changing the transfer box oil, its quiet as a mouse now with 5 people and 4 dogs in the back, up hill and down dale YIPPEE!! total cost of oil 41.50 inc vat Land rover only part.
