Car Will Not Start

Anyone know chat might be stoping my car from starting?

Press the start/stop button without my foot on the break. Ignition turns on. No warnings.

Press it again with the break on and the ignition switches off.

Please help as I am supposed to be taking my son to the pagent in the morning Sad

Hi

I don't have keyless start (only have a D3), but according to the D4 handbook...

http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/co...;id=145021 - go to the section called 'Starting the Engine'.

...you may need to wait up to 12 seconds before the engine starts on a diesel. Presumably it's to allow the glow plugs to warm up. It also says press the button once with your foot on the brake.

I guess without your foot on the brake you'd have to 'manually' wait the 12 seconds, rather than let the car do it? But pressing the button again without your foot on the pedal before this time is up seems to suggest that it will cancel the start up sequence?

I suppose yours may be a petrol though which is different. Anyway the link above might help in some way.

I'm sure someone with a D4 will be along in a moment to assist!

Thanks for your quick response, but unfortunatly I have been through the usual checks and it is just swithing off.

It did it once a couple of days ago, but then started. Now it just will not start. Battery does not appear to be flat

Have you tried pressing and holding the brake pedal then pressing the button (rather than pressing it first without the brake)?

Is it a diesel?

Looks like the car just needed to have a sleep. Just been out and it started straight away.

I will be keeping an eye on it though.

Oh and it is the 2.7 Diesel - Auto. Great car. Don't miss my old D2, thought I would.

I think someone else had this issue. Software update I think.

I had this the other day, first time in 2 years. It was caused by my having pressed the brake pedal several times whilst the engine was off. This raised the resistance to pressing the pedal.

So when I then came to start the car I pressed the brake with the normal amount of pressure and I just got the dashboard warning saying press the brake.
I tried it a few times to no avail.
I did a reset, got out, locked car, waited a few minutes, got in and tried again, same problem.

But I then pressed really hard on the brake and tried it and she fired straight up.

I would have sworn the brake lights were coming on even when I was pressing lightly on the pedal but maybe not. (I assune brake light and starter circuit work off same sensor)

It's a common issue. You need to press the break pedal harder, not just briefly. The press the button. It's happen a few times to me.

I currently have that issue in my D4. I did realize that after a while of leaving the car unlocked in the driveway when I retuned it wouldn't start. I remember reading somewhere in the handbook about a 'soft lock', I pressed the unlock on the key fob & it started.
