I've just had my trusty 54 plate D3 in at the dealer for his annual service, this time 105,000 miles. So I was warned it would be a pricey one involving timing belts and other important stuff. While they were at it, they identified the need for brake overhaul, new discs and pads at rear, new front ball joints, new brake pipes. With an hourly rate of £82 plus VAT (yes, 82!!! ), I have been left with a bill of just over £2200!! Is this a new world record for a routine service and recommended repairs?

I doubt its a record but,
Could you not have had the service and had the other parts done elsewhere ?
It does look expensive but on the other hand should last a few more years before those parts need replacing again ? Only dead fish go with the Flow !

At that price, it would have been worth your while driving down to Duckworths for their Timing belt change price! I'm sure they'd have done the rest for you at a similar discount price. Bodsys Brake Bible

I just got 2 quotes for that service + timing belt change......
LR dealership...£774 + vat.....roughly £930 (I'm pretty sure that included the 10% loyalty,but not certain)
Local Indy £600 all in.....
as far as I can see the Indy hourly rate is half LR rate.....but then his overheads etc are a lot lower......depends if you want coffee, biscuits and plush surroundings
as the saying goes...you pays your money... "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

had my 05 plate serviced at Williams Manchester, it was the 105k service so all belts were replaced and brake fliud and full service. Total cost £750 including VAT. They did say it sohuld have cost £950 but as work was slow if I could arrnage to bring it in then they would offer me that price. I took it in the following week and they lent me a new car for the day so a shopping trip was called for. Very please with the price and a good job done. Landrover Discovery 3 TDV6 S 7 seat Automatic
