Cost of clutch repair - suprising |
|
Well it's winter and Christmas is a week away so it's that time of year when the old bus throws her annual spanner at me. This year it is the clutch.
So i get on the phone and call around both main dealers and indies for a price excluding the flywheel. Thought I'd share the results (all include VAT):
Bristol Landrover Indie: £1100
Local Indie where i get most work done and who did the last clutch: £900
T.H White where i bought her from: Still waiting for a call back after 4 days!
Guy Salmon: £767
Guess where it's going? Must say I'm getting quite fond of GS. They where the best price for my 105k service and I must say were absolutely brilliant. Highly recommended.

This will be the 3rd clutch in 106k.
First exploded at 28k and replaced under warranty. Apparently there was a fault with some early clutches.
2nd replaced at 70k.
Both times DM flywheel replaced.
I used to tow a lot and I live in a very hilly part of Wiltshire so to be expected.
Other than that she runs as sweet as can be. The key has been regular maintenance and repair. Can't see any reason to change her.

Starthearn quoted £1084 (inc VAT) including flywheel which is £360, so for a dealer that seems very good, is that a fixed price? Joined the BMWX5 45e group

My clutch was replaced by White's Auto Services,a LR Indy, exactly a year ago, just before I bought it...

7 hours labour £276.50

bearing in mind this is a year ago,at an Indy, with vat at 17.5% I would say that quote of yours is very good "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Yes that is fixed price. Only variation will be if it needs a new flywheel but that is covered by warranty so not too bothered.
