Thanks Guys

We are so close to getting a demo up and going for you it was almost ready today, and it was not Genesis that was the problem but some web cam serving issues. We are all going to have to wait until next week now ;-(

I have no particular "fascination" with using the internet, i am however driven to provide capabilities no one else can or does, and like it or not, i think most would agree that cloud technology is the way forward.
I am very glad to be the first to put vehicle diagnostic capability in the cloud.
I also think that most would appreciate our taking this very slowly and surely and not rushing to provide anything that was not absolutely proven, tested and bullet proof.

I fully appreciate that some might well not like me for my apparent arrogance and self belief, and i definitely have an ego the size of Texas, but this is an absolute minimal requirement for me to even attempt even a fraction of what i do.
I make absolutely no apology for this, as not only does my "can do" attitude not only serves me well, but it has ultimately served many thousands of Land Rover owners very well too.

I agree with you that i am totally anal about licensing, and do apologize if my desire to stay in business to provide further stuff no one else can is annoying but that's how it is.

Thanks for your helpful technical advice about our using a Hasp USB dongle Thumbs Up

use a hasp usb dongle, its proven and reliable tech

Unfortunately, i have to tell you i can personally crack the Hasp's apparent protection faster than i can drink a cup of coffee. I am not professing particularly blessed or exceptional with this ability, as anyone can learn how to do this simply by typing Hasp +Crack into Google.

Here is an example of a particularly good article on the subject
http://www.woodmann.com/crackz/Tutorials/Haspenv.htm

It is certainly patently obvious that with no internet connection you cannot use Genesis, no fooling folks there, but then that is part of the reason why Genesis will not replace our existing equipment. And i humbly submit that you will struggle very to find anyone who would regard investing in any of our existing equipment as it being an expensive brick in their glove box. Unless of course they do not actually have any of our equipment.

High speed ADSL not always readily available.

North of me, the nearest Land Rover dealer is in either Iceland or Greenland.

Needless to say, Land Rover Assistance is something available across the pond in the Mother country. Here internet service is not always guaranteed either per the link to a typical phone sign not too far north of where I live and drive.

Hence I think there will continue to be a need for self contained non cloud based solutions, be they bricks or mortar.

I guess like everyone else ron3005, including me, you never leave home without it Thumbs Up

We have sorted through the web cam issues and made it so the web cam feed is actually automatically provided on the same web page, and now just have a newly found few wrinkles to sort before we can have guests log in and try this themselves.

However, i wanted to give all you guys a quick preview peek into what i am setting up for this demo and so did a quick one man Video of it just in time to upload to our web site before the end of the day.

Sorry it is a bit shaky, and sometimes the camera is not pointing anywhere useful, but it's a bit hard holding the camera steady in one hand while doing stuff with the other in the dark, and it looks like the anti shake setting was turned off, but it's good enough to show how it works, the kind of user interface it provides, what the user will get to see happening and the sort of things they be able to do in this demo.

Interestingly these functions are not even available with the MSV-2 yet

Anyway i would love to hear what you think Wink

Pom in the nicest possibile way I think you are missing the whole point with Genesis and why it was created tbh.

You home router is a brick without power! Your wifi card is a brick without your router! your mobile phone is a brick without a sim card etc etc. Genesis is an internet based tool so of course its a brick without internet access and so is your car without fuel, but these do not make them all usless and unwanted you just have to use them as designed and they all will do a fantastic job for what they were designed to do.

Just come across this post,

And Im interested in it as it would save trips to my local Landrover specialist to sort out the odd changes etc. Like the reversing cam has decided to reverse itself and switch off the teversing lines.

Would I be able to get the auto close windows working to?

Thanks to everyone for your support of our efforts to push the envelope and develop next generation diagnostic technology.

As many will know, we do now have a permanent on line demonstration of Genesis that a select few have been invited to try out. If anyone wants to try this out themselves, drop me a PM.

In our efforts to provide a permanently on line demonstration, we have actually already learned vast amounts that are worthy of note and mention.

Our main concern has of course always been the reliability, sustainability and dependency of a data connection made with the Genesis Client application over the internet between a Vehicles CAN BUS and the Genesis server.

We have made huge efforts to cater for any and all dis connection at the worst possible moment scenarios.

Doing something that takes only a few seconds or a minute or so is relatively easy, but we have always been worried that doing anything that takes substantially longer, like 30 Minutes to Flash an ECU with a remap for example may be a problem and may well limit what can be successfully attempted with Genesis.

It seems that our worst fears were totally unfounded, as our demo, as well as a duplicate, has proved that our genesis client application has successfully maintained an unbroken connection to the CAN BUS of a vehicle to the Genesis site for no less than 3 consecutive days and nights.

Game on Thumbs Up

BTW MadJax, these sound like simple CCF edits to me and indeed the sort of thing entirely possible with Genesis.

Can someone clarify this for me please
From what I have gathered
If I want 4x4 info enabled ,normally I would contact someone with a msv2 , pay the £30-£50 and either go and visit or get them to come to me . But with this cable, and adapter if needed, at £100 I can get them to do it over the Internet for a fee
Ideal if you are in a remote location, but based in uk???? Flack and Wiggs travel all over
I originally thought that this was a standalone unit, a bit like Landrover topix, where you purchase suitable cable and pay for the software usage Hence the reason I went down the mongoose route with Landrover topix
I can see where the guys with multi vehicle licenses are coming from, after all they have paid out a fortune for this, and all of a sudden here is a £100 diagnostic unit that can do the same things for a fraction of the price, would p Censored s me of also. So instead of £30 to install 4x4 info, is this going to cost £5 ? Or there abouts.
I believe that genesis would have taken off immensely if it was available to everyone as a stand alone diagnostic set up but still having to rely on someone with with a msv2 doesn't make sense, we are not all numptys who don't know how to use diagnostics.
Even having a lite version for those who just want to enable things, although I think some msv users might get upset at this, and leaving the reprogramming to the more experienced
Just my tuppence worth, Thumbs Up and expecting to get shot down in flames for this
Unless I have got it all wrong

Nearly correct but not, The hardware will be arround 100quid, you will then if you dont have any other BBS tools have to pay for its use depending on what you want to do with it and how often.

Pricing onits use is still miles away from finalisation so arnt publiclly available as yet at all.

What i will say is, its not just a 100 quid one off fee for hardware and your done for ever with nothing else to pay. you will need to pay for its use.

Yes I agree that you will have to pay for accessing software usage, this what I do at present with topix, but the way I read the previous posts was that msv2 multi users were the ones who would do it, because of their outlay. Although technology does progress
It's like buying disco 3 then they bring out d4. Your stuck with your d3 which is excellent but d4 or genesis is better and more appealing for everyone.
I would have liked to buy the cable then go to bbs site and pay Colin for the software usage, if this was marketed this way then every d3 owner would probably buy one, but you still have the guys with the multi license msv2s, although they will probably have recouped their initial outlay by now

Surely that's down to individual suppliers? Sounds like its being 'fixed'??

Colin,

Sounds like a great option. I'm looking forward to giving it a go, and seeing its full potential.

Loving the FCR, best money spent on the D3 so far, has paid for it self already.
