Well being the forum dwarf I can assure you side steps are neither necessary or in my opinion needed. Having seen how easily they are bent I'm not sure what there purpose is? My first D3 survived 14 months and 23K miles and was just a standard HSE no strips and it had no dents. My current one does have strips but I think they only look good on silver cars.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Thanks Matt, forgot about the search facility. Found the link with photos etc. Looks straight forward enough. Thanks again.D3 Buckingham Blue SE Auto

Wahay - I have a set of those!
I was keen on the sidesteps originally (basically Mrs N was prepared to release funds) but having seen how they 'get in the way' when off the tarmac I'm not going to bother. I have the side strips with chrome inserts - looks classier I think...

Go for the side steps, protects your car whilst people park to close, they damage their doors instead!!

Had steps on a disco 1.....ended up stuck in the mud, had steps on the mrs's BMW X3....always covered my trousers in muck and awkward to get in.....so I've gone for the side strips with chrome inserts...looks much classier and adequate protection!

Just the weight of the things that put me off. It cannot help the MPG or performance to have them fitted.
Then again, the price of a paint repair pays for a whole lot of fuel...
Being less than 5'2", I use my side steps to climb in... but if you intend to go off-road, not advisable.... Mine are both dented after a marvelous muddy day in Snowdonia earlier this year... Now saving up for replacements!!As you slide down the banister of life
