Haven't had any problems with insurance to date, but noted that the media was reporting further increases in annual premiums as the government tries to crack down on whip-lash claims
Any general trend as to which insurers are remaining consistently the best (& which to avoid) for the D4? - not necessarily just the bottom line premium but also taking into account service levels and overall level of cover (such as TP cover when driving other cars)

I keep coming back to either Swiftcover or Privilege. Normally have one car with each and swap the around every year to get the best price.
Both good companies, both give TP cover on other cars, no silly charges for making minor changes and both have people you can talk to, based in the UK and who seem to have a modicum of common sense.

Can't fault Admiral apart from the fact they try and double my premium every year. Fine with claims and I just price match them with confused.com to elephant (sister company) and they don't quibble. VIN: A175A328***

My daughter does this every year but in reverse, she is with Elephant but the renewal is always sky high and every year Admiral have been the cheapest so she just phones them up and they price match (Like you say same company). Makes you realise how much they are trying to screw out of existing customers who don't shop around, I think she got nearly £300 knocked off last years renewal.
I've just gone with Churchill (oh yes!) as they were nearly £100 cheaper than LV for the same cover, I rang LV up to see if they wanted to price match but when I said it was against Churchill they never even tried to match, the girl on the phone just said sorry we can't go any cheaper. Cheers Ian

Privilege & Admiral both seemed very easy to check on line, and competitive costs. Only things I noticed were Admiral offered a fully guaranteed NCB, Privilege just a 1 per year 2 in 3 year protection; and both seemed to want to know about all options and details of trailers used! Seemed to imply that even an option such as a heated steering wheel would need to be notified! Anyone any feedback on what they have done with either issue?

privilege want to be notified of all changes from factory spec. but a lot are no additional charge, for example, winter tyres and towbars.
in the 10 years i've been with them, they continue to beat everyone, and throw in stuff like no additional charge for business mileage.
and when i had an accident several years ago, everything was managed through one call to a uk call centre with no paperwork !

Just had a claim dealt with by my insurer Swiftcover.......very efficient and hassle-free...... "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool,than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Spoke to both Admiral & Privilege - and yes they do want every optional extra to be declared! ie even factory options! - Admiral said it was so that their value could be taken into account in replacing a write-off which made sense. But I wonder how many owners notify everything - never been required before, and may end up being another excuse for insurers to push premiums up (well sir... that heated steering wheel may make you feel too comfortable & therefore not so attentive to your driving, so that's 10% on your premium )

Used Aviva for years. Always been competitive for me.
When we upgraded from the D3 to the D4 there was a small increase.
I then wanted to add a friend of my wifes on to the insurance so that on long trips they could share the driving, No Cost at all. Very pleased
I think we pay just over £400 D4 HSE - Aintree Green
D4 Orkney my13 - gone
Stornaway D4. Gone, Didn't like it at all
D3 silver manual. Loved my first LR
