Warranty Direct

I am sure that most people know this already but I didn't.

I put my MY05 D3 in for suspension arm replacement after taking out a warranty June 11 with Warranty Direct. They have refused to pay for part of the work as they say it was a pre existing condition when I bought the car.

How do they know this? Well if you go to http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/...equest.jsp you can look at the past advisory notices from previous MOT's, which I didn't know you could do. Embarassed

I guess isrrespective of this I would have still have bought the car but haggled on the price. Needless to say the advisory note was not with the MOT when I gought it and I didn't think to look for the YES box for advisory notes issued on the MOT cert. New style MOT certs have the advisory notes printed on the certificate.

Anyway I know I am stupid and should have known this, now I do and if anybody elese learns from this then good job done Very Happy

Thanks for the tip, I bought a WD warranty to lead straight from my manufacturers warranty for exactly this reason, they are up front and do warn people about pre existing condition issues, but good to share the info I never knew about that Thumbs Up

Did you get it from a garage, if so I would have thought that they should have advised you of it at time of purchase so you may (if really really lucky) have a claim against them. Surely an advisory must be notified unless buying as seen. Worth a try, they may have an attack of consionce and make a contribution. Iknow, two hopes Whistle Whistle

I bought it from a dealer, so my problem really. Anyway I am feeling happier today because after discussions with them I managed to argue that one side had an advisory for worn ball joint and I argued that a ball joint is not the suspension arm. They have agreed to pay one side now.

They also would not pay for full tracking as per "Land Rovers" instructions. I am told that the vehicle suspension should be set through the diagnostic tool for the geometry set up and should be done on certain type of aligning jig which there are only twoin Leicestershire where I live.

WD would not pay for all of this to begin with until I asked them if they were advocating not complying with manufacturer's instructions for correct geometry set up. They greed to pay for the jig set up but not the use use of the diagnostic tool.

So all in all I have to pay for one front lower suspension arm, diagnostic kit use, 20% of all parts bills paid by WD and £50 excess. For this I will got the rear suspension and front suspension rebuilt. I have made about £350 in premiums for warranty to date.

What cover do you have with them? If you had main dealer surely this would have been done.

I have Extra Care independent Network Garage

I did this because I use a very knowledgeable independent who has all the diagnostics a main dealer would have and to be honest I am not convinced at the skill level you see in main dealers these days. Plus the premium for main dealer was more expensive. I had had it in the past with company cars where I know more than the technician about problems such as EGR's on Vectras Mad Mad Mad

All in all I am happy with the arrangement but it just seems you need to argue about everything in life these day. Oh well I am getting good at it. The wife calls me Victor Meldrew now.

You got a very good deal there.

Just goes to show that negotiation with WD goes a long way. And using forums like this enables us all to see what is availbale

Just got home to find a Warranty Direct envelope with cheques in it.

Yes multiple cheques. It looks like my new best pals at WD have split the claim into 3 and deducted £50 excess of each. Problem is there is no breakdown of how they have calculated the amounts of the cheques.

I will call them tomorrow and try and get a break down.

Forecast for tomorrow, frosty start probably getting colder with an out look of swearing and cancelled policy.

Just what I need or a Friday.

I knew/heard on here about a £50 excess for each claim as in each individual problem, seems you had a few different problems all at once, but have just read the luxury care policy I posted and don't see any info on excesses or amounts. I know you said you only had the Extra care, I wonder what your policy document states and if it is much different to the other, maybe worth reading that before you call so you have all the info Wink

I checked through the policy document and all it states that there is a £50 excess for each claim.

My definition of a claim is each time some work is logged with them. So one call was made by the garage one claim registered.

WD don't see it that way they breakdown the claim into individual components "according to dealer standard replacement times" and in their words "if it cannot be proved that one item caused another to fail then each item will be reagrded as an individual claim"

Thefore they have brioken down my claim into pieces and taken £50 for each one Evil or Very Mad

When asked who I was speaking to they will not give out their names!!!!! Only first name and first letter of their surname.

Who are these people.

So by the time you have taken off £50 for each item, 20% for each part and the hassle of dealing with these people the policy in my view is not worth it.

Anybody thinking of using WD beware

Thanks for this slinger, as in most things we only really find out how good warrenties are when we claim. My LR warrenty is up in a month and still considering what to do. Food for thought.

Sorry I don't see it that way, I feel they are right that each individual item should be classed as a separate claim if no link can be proved and I am sure that is in the policy, it is certainly spoken about on here so no surprises. If you had a car accident and the wing was dented, but you decided to claim for other non related damage and put it under one claim when it was not related then that would be the same.

People need to read and understand their policies and what level cover they require, it is all written down, understand what you are buying and make sure that it is suitable for you Wink
