Full length roof rails

Has anyone fitted the full length rails to their D3/D4, if so were there any issues?
In the instructions it states that a 19mm hole needs to be drilled in the rubber strip at the front of the car for the front most fitting/bolt. Is that necessary as the bolt is a lot smaller diameter that 19mm.

filo: Topix has only the short rails, but the 19mm hole is probably the same as the Rack install, see links....:

Russell,

Did my rails on my D3 with a 19mm hole saw just because the instructions said so Whistle But as Geoff said a smaller size can definitely be used if you mark/measure correctly.

On the D4 there is already a grommet in place but with a smaller hole than 19mm, will have a play and see what happens.

D3's the same! Instead of measuring, put the rail gently into position, then tap the front screw so it indents the strip, remove the strip, use the indent as your centre mark and drill it out!

Simples

Whilst on the subject of full length rails, are these necessary for the front mount on an Expo rack on a D4 or can the rack front mount fit into the hole on the D4 roof as it did on the D3. As far as I can see the standard rails on the D4 are the same as those on the D3 - why do you need the extended rails?
