SERVICE PLAN...OR NOT?
Hi all, what are your opinions on dealership service plans please?
We are unsure whether to go with the dealership plan, or to have our new Discovery 4 serviced by our local garage using LR approved parts?
I don't think the dealership plan saves any money, merely spreads the cost over the year.....what do you guys advise please?
We collect our new Discovery in March, so we have a couple of weeks to decide!
Kind regards Andrew.

We were offered the same by our dealer too, £48 p/m for 3yrs at 0%APR. Again, as you said no savings made just merely spreading the cost.
Would it be more cost effective to play nearby dealers against each other when the service is due to see who can give the better deal??
I have a few weeks to let them know if I want to take the plan out, so I guess I have the same dilemma as you

Depends entirely on the costs. I guess I've been lucky - due to the current economic climate my franchised dealer currently offers a great service rate which works out at a maximum of €300 per service.....2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

When you have got Service, MOT, Tax and Insurance all at the one time, it can be one way of spreading the burden and it is nice getting the service & free MOT they offer and not having to hand over cash! Also means your are nut tempted away from dealer which might be useful if Goodwill claims are to be made in the future.
£48 month seems a bit steep though. Mine is less than that and was a 3 year plan.

just signed up to 6 services ....works out at £185 each service .
Already had one service before i signed the plan and that was a discounted price for me at £285
My concern was the last service would be the big one ....they said all i have to do is pay an addition £350 and that will include the belts with the service .
just over £50 a month for the next 20 months .
A bargain for me ..as i do a lot of milesG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Wiggs was that through Stratstones at Bury ?
They offered everything to me at the point of signing for the car, GAP insurance, alloy and puncture repair scheme, minor dent repair scheme etc etc but didn't mention servicing plan.
Still, I would've probably have said "No" to that as well !

It was Stratstones @Bury
i actually turned it down when i was paying for the first service ...wasent till i got home and thought ... that was actually a good deal .
I know them quite well in there and Barrie ( service manager ) used to be a sponser on here .
I doubt the sales people would have offered a service deal as there two seperate parts (sales / service )G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Obvious question but are these for Stratstone services (non LR parts) or LR services, with OEM parts?

why would they go and buy non oem parts when there a LR dealer
stop being a doom munger all the time Derek .
I personally couldnt give a fook if they want to fit an aftermarket filter to my car to save a few quid ...its under warranty and they service it ...so if it breaks it will be going back to themG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Yes, I thought that was quite expensive too....£517 per service over the 32mths the plan runs for. I think I'll give the other local dealer a call and see what they are doing 16/32/48k services for. It won't do 16k per annum, but I do like the dealer service stamp if and when problems arise....

IMHO it's a mistake using your local garage unless they have been LR trained, use a good LR independent, they know what they are doing. You'll get your money back with profit when it's time to sell.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

What a brilliant website. Had mine booked in for 3 weeks time having screwed the price down to £475 price matching etc for its 6 th year service, went on the website and booked it in for £222 same service, same dealers this Friday! ....................................................................................................
If my wife ever sells my stuff for what she thinks I paid for them, you lot are gonna get some bargains!
