Probably the sort of radio that you can get for the money I want to spend, is something you would call complete crap. I've owned any radios. All I want is a pair of rechargeable radios that will work on a D3 event and communicate with the other guys. They will only get used two or three times a year, so I didn't want to spend too much on them. They might be handy for other times, like when I loose my wife in shops!
I was thinking well below £50 for a pair.

On that basis, a pair of the Motorola 5xxx series ought to suit you, good reputation and reasonable, but bear in mind the point about electronic interference and the fact that they don't balance on their rounded base. I got an old pair with headsets from ebay for £40. My children enjoy using them and should they break them, it's not a calamity.

What is the price difference and size difference to the Motorola that TFC mentioned?

The HT446 is a similar size to the XTN but, the Motorola has more of a plastic feel to it and isn't waterproof. You will get an XTN for the same kind of money as in this HT446 offer.

Gerald Ratner comes to mind....... Wink

Go for 2nd hand on eBay to get something better. I noticed this on ebay yesterday with a £50 reserve, and whilst I can't vouch for the actual items on offer (or the seller), I can tell you that if you get it for £50 then you have some of the better units available.

Sorry for the questions JMC, I do use radios in the D3 when I'm caravanning, so it will get reasonable use, so it seems this is a good deal and I'm up for it!

No apologies needed. There is no such thing as a stupid question - there is only the chance of a stupid answer. Wink

TBH good people. Having been on quite a few events and experienced the 'cheaper' radios and basically how crap they are. It is worth considering paying a bit more to get a decent one. The reason being is quite often you could be in a wooded area or spread over quite a distance and the cheaper radios will not work. Even my expensive Kenwoods sometimes don't have the range, for this reason when we are in 'convoy' I use the more powerful licenced radios, one at the front and one at the back of the convoy.

I'm sure the cheaper ones will work if there is just 2 of you so go for the cheaper, it all depends on what you intend to do. I know of quite a few people that have got the cheaper radios, given up with them and gone and got better ones.

Apparently, there were 'Envelopes' arrived this afternoon from Non Stick Nick and Gazavich. I have been out of the office all day (400 mile round trip to Ayrshire), so I will get these sent out on Monday guys. Hope that's OK. After all, the guy I was seeing today was spending the same as you - without the decmal point...... Wink

Well, I'm sorry - you will just have to find another antenna to play with over the week-end Wink
