Importing tyres

I am due for a new set of 19" tyres in the next few months. I am keen on the Cooper LTZ 255/55/19 but the local dealers in Perth want over $500 for each tyre whereas one can get these in the USA for $250 Evil or Very Mad

Has anyone on the forum imported tyres from the US and can you recommend a supplier?

Consider the total fitted cost - also customs duty etc.

If cost of goods only is less that $1000 then no additional duties are payable. However if the cost is over $1000 then you will pay GST on the cost of goods and shipping plus there is an additional administration charge of a couple hundred dollars.

Fitting and balancing about $25 a tyre.

Overseas companies are becoming aware of the difference in Aust and overseas prices and are upping shipping costs. Also be aware that warranties will not apply and make sure you are actually getting the right tyre compound - tyres with the same name can often have different compounds for different countries.

They certainly are. It's not unusual to be asked for USD40 for something that has
$8 on it when it arrives. Individual traders are not too bad , but Companies gouge a heap out of it.
Interestingly , commercial rates are much less than the USPS etc. calculators specify , so it's a real profit
booster. I paid only USD61 for a 11kg tracked airmail consignment from Kentucky last month , yet the on-line
page was heaps more.

Try treaddepot.com in GA. the price for Cooper LTZ is very good and the shipping company they use are fairly reasonable from what I have looked into previously. Al looks after the international side and he was very helpful
