Absolutely certain my 06MY is permanent, as I went out and switched it on this morning with the key in my pocket 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Have you bridged anything out to get that? I'll check when I get to the car, but I'm sure it's not working unless key is in and ignition. Will come back later..... Bodsys Brake Bible

No, factory wired like that - and that's what the wiring diagrams show. D4 is wired differently (according to wiring diagram).
It does take a few seconds to kick in, so make sure you leave it switched on long enough to check 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

popped home at lunch time and it really is a 10minute job on the D4
just watch the 2 screws when taking them out as i dropped one down back of trim
and 100% yes the D4 switches off when car off XC90 T8 R Design Pro

Yep mine only runs with ignition on 2007 RS4 Avant
