Datachable Tow Bar

I ventured on to E Bay and bought a detachable tow bar..... it has arrived and looks a genuine part! Hasn't come with an 'idiots' guide..... anyone out there who can offer advice or instructions on fitting. Assume it just plugs in..... came with two keys.... and weighs a ton! Has a 'green' unlocking latch on one side.... help?

Re: Datachable Tow Bar

I did the same 4 months ago [also got electrics from Yeovil LR] & fitted myself.
All in all worked out at half the price of a LR dealer fit.
Already had Caravan on back [and I didn't lose it].
Just fiddle about with the Tow Hook lock to see how it works, ist's dead easy.

Remove the red "plug" that goes into the tow hitch receptacle and store safely. Insert key into tow hitch, insert tow hitch into receptacle until you get a satisfying clunk, turn key to lock into place, remove and enjoy.
Feel free to stand on the tow ball to make sure it doesn't come loose, like i do everytime i attach it.... Embarassed

Its all in the handbook but one aspect I did not find was too obvious concerns the "Key".
This normally remains in the tow hitch when the hitch is out of its receiver.
You can sometimes get it to come out but its not intended to come out. Carefully study the handbook images, you will see the key still in the hitch when you stow the hitch away.
Might be what others expect but it confused me. I took over the vehicle with its hitch installed and were given two loose keys, then after playing could not get the key out until I realised it did not come out unless the hitch is mounted for towing.

Yeah that happened to me - broke the key Embarassed Its dead simple when your used to it. I spray a little wd40 on the mechanism from time to time, but basically the hitch is on all the time.

There is a simple guide sticked to the back of the rear tow eye cover, might be helpful for you.

20 minute installation, 1 hour 40 minutes of beer breaks. Now that sounds good to me. Very Happy
