And whats even more amazing, is it still starts and most of the critical items (suspension etc) are still fully functional
(maybe that's it, that's the answer to all the issues that D3's have, they only play up when INTACT) Never get mad - get even !!

Sorry for your loss, I'm assuming nobody was hurt (?), but if you are cool with continuing with the pictures I think its great to see the dismantle and very informative as to what lays behind certain bits and pieces.

i doesnt look too bad now all the stuff is emptied out - estimated at 14k to repair, mainly due to all side airbags going off
If the reason for it being "written off" was because the air bags needed replacing what happen when a D3 reaches its 10th birthday and all airbags need changing as per Land Rover service schedule? - Will the MOT be an issue? It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Most if not all manufacturers specify that the air bags should be replaced at ten years, but as far as I am aware that does not come into the MOT. All taht comes into the MOT is that there are no faults on the air bag system showing.
Also it is not just about the air bags going off that causes the right off, but often the ECU's associated with them give faults afterwards, as a reult many insurance companies replace the air bags and associated ECU's at the same time this is very costly.
Friend has just had avery new Audi A6 written off after a fairly minor shunt, reason being given by insurance, too costly to replace air bags and associated ECU's. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Also it is the 'secondary' damage caused by air bags deploying, in the case on a D3 (like many cars) the passenger side air bag will destry the dashboard, and (as was in my case last year) the windscreen also
The side curtain air bags will destry the whole roof lining, and quite a few side trim parts.
Once repairs reach around 60% of the 'trade or salvage' cost of the vehicle, the insurer will deem a write-off.
Or more acurately a 'beyond economic repair Cat C or Cat D' Never get mad - get even !!
