Black smoke

Hello

My TDV6 disco 3 when pulling away is hesitant and when pressing the accelerator hard it puffs out black smoke. Is there a filter issue here or what could be the problem??

I would appreciate any valuable knowledge from the amazing specialists on this forum.

Nick, it's likely to be a split in the intercooler pipe or delaminated inside it.

Usually a split will be noticed if you feel around the elbow of the pipe itself.

For mye fuel or too little air, I agree with bodsy check the hose, if its split go with a silicon replacement.

Black smoke Solved!!

I am updating progress made with the Black Smoke problem I reported a few weeks ago.

I have taken the advice received and I have ordered and replaced the Intercooler Pipe for a Nice Blue version. I have also taken advice from the big discussion over using 2T Oil in the diesel. I bought a 1 litre bottle of Castrol Actevo 2T oil from my local Polish village parts shop and put 200ml in a near full tank of diesel.

Since making these changes, under hard acceleration I am not seeing the big puff of black smoke as I was. With the new Blue pipe on I am noticing a massive difference in braking power and overall acceleration. For the first time in a long while I am being kicked back into my seat when accelerating.

The engine is beginning to seem quieter, too early to say about economy yet but performance is improving.

Have other Disco fans experienced the same changes in performance???

Thanks very much to all the support received from Disco 3 Forum and the messages received.

Nick

I had similar symptoms with mine.
BAS inter-cooler pipe sorted it and no more smoke / power back to normal...
I have been using mineral 2T oil in the car (500ml per FULL tank) and have noticed less noise but I have only been using for around 2000 miles so not conclusive.
Bonatti Grey with Tundra, Duratracs, DISCO3 sticker, De-badged then rebadged in black, EGRs blanked - still saving for IC and BAS remap...
