D3 randomly stops!!
Hi All, looking for help from the vast experience and knowledge of you clever disco folk...! (sorry its a bit long)
I have a 2008 GS 3, and for the past 10 weeks the car has shut down at random times. You will be driving along when the all warning lights on the steering dash light up, the car brakes to a 10mph crawl, numerous messages appear on the digital display and the car prevents you from driving past 10mph. Pull over, turn the car off, remove the keys, leave for the display to go out and restarts fine.
This has happened in the wet and dry, on motorways and B roads, doing 80mph and 20mph in nose to tail traffic and on flowing roads, during the day and night. Had it down to the local LR specialists who have cleared the faults from the diags and apparently checked the wiring only for it to happen several times in 1 hour last week. Recent changes to the car include, headlights upgrade, steering wheel upgrade to leather, new steering wheel switches and a parrot. All were installed for several weeks before this problem started and I have completely detached the parrot to avoid any confusion and it happened since being removed. Also just had new disks fitted as the pads had crumbled and demolished half of one of the rear disks (sure its not related but it hasnt happened in the two days since getting the car back).
I have attached a few pictures of the error message, but feel the next step will be the garage changing random things to try and fix it.
Has anyone come across this before and has anyone got suggestions on what I should do next, as it has happened twice on my wife with the kids.
Any help gratefully received.
Paul

My WAG woud be you've got a brake light bulb out or brake peddle switch. These events are not uncommon, called a Cristmas Tree Event.

I would get a fault code reader on it, then you can see if there is any modules sending errors out etc.

Yep and me - cheap part and easy DIY job.
That and put in some new OEM brake lights.

Thank you guys, happy for any other comments and or similar experience.. I fitted the steering wheel and switches ok, so hopefully should be up to the task. Could anyone point me in the direction of the part number and what to do???
Very grateful...

One more question if you dont mind - I am reading that the reason for the rear drivers side disk damage could be caused by a sticky caliper ? as i have just spent £400 on disks should I be checking anything else incase the problem repeats itself?
