Driving along the motorway at the weekend my car suddenly developed a severe intermittent vibration. At first I thought it was just the road surface but this was not the case. Fortunately I wasn't that far from home. When I got home there was a strong burning smell and lots of heat coming from the rear near side wheel. Took the car into the main dealer today and they've advised I need new handbrake cables, discs and shoes. The workshop foreman says the cause is because of an incorrectly adjusted handbrake. Total bill just under £600. However just over a week ago the car was serviced and mot'd by the same main dealer, £516 thank you very much. Now I'm no expert but is it reasonable to expect the handbrake to be checked and adjusted as part of the servicing? Any advice would be most welcome.
Thanks.

If the handbrake shoes are adjusted incorrectly, i.e. the shoe adjuster not turned back 8 clicks etc, you will notice one hell of a judder when the shoes & hub get very hot on the motorway.
If your car did not judder before, I guess they have adjusted them & done it incorrectly. Mitsubishi Outlander Phev 4H 2018.

Welcome DRH29
There's a lesson here...

An expensive choice. A good independent would probably give you better service & cost much less.
For the future consider using a local independent or possible forum sponsor "10forcash":-

highly recommended.
He came to me in Hampshire, so Colchester should be no problem.
Have you had the 7 year/ 105k mile belt service done?

Thanks to all. I'll be on to the dealer first thing. I will let you know how I get on. Incidentally the car will be going back in on Friday to have a new suspension compressor fitted (thankfully under warranty). Not really had much luck with this car!

I got hold of the service schedule checklist which clearly states that the electric park brake needs to be checked and adjusted. Bearing in mind the car was serviced a week and a half ago this was the basis of my argument. Either the dealer had overlooked to check the park brake or they had checked and incorrectly adjusted. Either way it was their responsibility. They acknowledged this and fair play to them there was no charge. So no £600 bill, very happy and well done to the dealer for putting it right.
Thanks again.
