An auto in Manual mode is the best substitute there is to a curry hook, other than a curry hook !

No idea what to do with the Sain's Bugs carrier bags, now that there isn't a manual choke any more !

Coat is got !
..............Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........

I thought the D3 locks the torque converter in low range for off road work, does in mine. It will cut in suddenly though. Shocked Big difference from D2 great to have engine braking in auto. Very Happy

Auto is better at:
towing
steep & variable traction hill climbs
wet grass (see CrazyDave's thread Wink )

Manual is better at:
self recovery where the 'rocking' the vehicle is a benefit
hill decent (without HDC to help prevent brake fade)
Fast hill decent
Acending or decending loose or unstable surfaces where wheels are likely to leave the ground momentarily (and cause reverse torque when they land again)

in what situations, in your opinion, would an Auto (in or out of Command Shift mode) have the edge over a Manual?

I can offer this one....

At the dealers at Trade-In time! 8)

There will not be any wear to the leather gaitor, owing to the fact that there is not one Wink

Caver, it can't lock the torque converter if there is no torque (fluid pressure) to lock up... an auto will always 'tip out' if the ground speed exceeds the gearbox final output speed (reverse torque) to protect itself, the danger is when reverse torque is applied suddenly - this can seriously break your gearbox Shocked
Is it possible that what you perceive as 'lock up' is in fact TC working?

Don't confuse 'fast' with 'uncontrolled' Wink

how? slipping the clutch doesn't give you traction Wink From my (limited) expriences driving D3 auto's just leave it in drive and let it work out the rest itself 8) It's a excellent auto 'box and the integration with the rest of the D3 makes it all the better
