We refer to wet grass as 'green ice'. In order for the traction control to work effectivley there needs to be a difference in wheel speeds. If not and all four wheels are turning at the same speed, the car thinks it is going in a straight line. There is a tolerance built in to the system for going round corners etc, where you will have a different speed between between the inner and outer wheels and in the case of the D3 (with permant 4x4) the front and rear axles. Watch a defender without TC but diff lock engaged, in a cross axled situation. The opposing wheels with no load are left to spin free (cos drive will allways take the path of least resistance). Now with a vehical that has TC the main ECU will detect the speed difference and instruct the brake computer to apply the brakes to those wheels. This will provide resistance and forces drive back through the wheels that are on the ground.
Hope this helps.

The best example of DSC I've experienced was at the RRSport Supercharged demo several disco3 members went on last summer. The chap took us out on the proving grounds and thrashed the thing around to the point that my buddy was green
What was evident was that it was DSC keeping the beast on the road far more than any skill the driver had. The demonstration defied the laws of physics ....I was completely astounded ! 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

DG,
I went on that day and was amazed, although if I remember correctly the RRSS had some additional wizardry Active Conering Enhancement as well.
Did your driver get it to top out at 140 before applying the brakes 100m from the armco, also the proving ground oposit camber stuff was amazing.

This was one of the reasons DSC came about. It is a stabillity programme that is very effective on say, high speed lane changes. The D3 (and RRS) are very heavy vehicals with a natural tendency to understeer. As has allready been stated the DSC will work individualy on the breaking system and in turn backing the throttle off. Remember DSC is an aid for a good driver and not a substitute for a bad un.

No we had a slight breeze so he only got up to 130 before applying the handbrake My internal organs exited my body through every available orifice 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
