I was thinking of doing that but decided that it would just get kicked to death by my clumsy kids.

Be very careful down there. There are a couple of harnesses which run under the centre consol and drinks tray. If I remember correctly one of them is for either the airbag system or the front seatbelt pretensioners.

You don't want to be messing with those things.

You'll be lucky to fit a player in there - I looked at doing that last year, but the depth wasn't enough for the units I had available. (The drinks tray is also a b*gger to get out in the first place)

I've tried and failed on several occasions to get the cup holder out, so I could put a DVD player in there. It should be simple but it appears to be fastened in with more than just spring clips. Maybe there is important wiring in there that they don't want you effing around with?

I've now taken to leaving the holder permanently out and I have mounted the player on top. The wiring then goes in the space behind the open holder. Not elegant, but it does the job.

I get the point about the Air bag stuff etc down there but how to get the b*s%a"d out !!!!

My DVD player will fit, it's V. small and would be great in there. If I fail next time then it's a hammer and bolster job.

I'd love to know the "proper" way to remove it ??

See this older thread.

Bear in mind that the floor to the rear of the space revealed is not flat, so that whilst the depth at the top may be sufficient, a suitable player may have to be an inch or so thinner than the height of the aperture. If your player is based on a PC-type 5.25" device, then it's unlikely, but a PC-notebook style drive may well be suitable.

a few pics may also help, in order of removal.

Remove the floor console lid. Open the lid.
Remove the 2 Torx bolts.
Remove the 2 covers

Remove the auxiliary socket panel. Release the 2 clips.
Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.

Remove the floor console register trim panel. Release the 6 clips.

Remove the cup holder. Release the 2 clips

Job done !

Just as Catweasels instructions plus some pulling. DVD player in place. Not an ideal solution although perfect for us retro-fit poorpers.

Thanks for the help

If only i had got these piccys intime i managed to suss it out after about 2 hrs, but with a lot of nervous pulling ref the front facia. The head unit was a little too thick but i have unbolted the centre console (2 screws) raised it at the back about an inch this means it also slides right back. i made a couple of brackets to secure the console back down to the initial fittings.

The roof mounted lcd screen fits perfect where the interior lights were with very little effort. I must say it looks every bit as good as the LR dvd and is very secure not bad to say it cost me £75.00 all in off ebay. I will post some pictures when i can. the next step will be wiring it into the front sat nav screen.
