CTEK charger

Am thinking of getting a CTEK charger, what ones do people out there use on their D3/4's and for general charging of batteries.
Has anyone set up a CTEK charger through a 13 pin towing socket on their D4.

I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago and Geoff. pointed me in the direction of the CTEK MXS 5.0.

Used it a couple of times now, since found out that I have an electrical fault Rolling Eyes as after a few days get the message 'Low battery - please start engine' . Need to get it sorted but not done so yet, have spoken to dealer about it and they suspect the battery but not been able to book it in yet.

I also asked about charging via the towing socket socket (but I have the 12pin s & N) but not got round to that yet either Rolling Eyes

heres the original thread

I use a CTEK MXS 5.0. for my D3 and my caravanning batteries of 60 and 90 Ah capacity.

With the Disco I connect it via the S12 towing socket as I cant readily get to the battery when the car is in the garage, The same can easily be done with the modern 13 Din socket.

I leave it on there when away on extended trips without the Disco.

Aldi and Lidl do cheap similar though not identical units however these don't reset after power cuts as the CTEK does; a very important issue in my case where I can be away for a couple of months.

Caravan club consistently find them best on test. I've had mine and it has managed to charge batteries other chargers couldn't. Thumbs Up

If I understand you correctly then no CTEK dont sell a special connection made for the 13 pin socket.

You need to make this up DIY buying the CTEK eye ended adaptor , from a CTEK agent and a spare 13 pin plug from the likes of a caravan accessory shop. Cut off the eye ends and wire the adaptor to the appropriate earth and "always live" pins of the plug. You can find the correct pins to use by Googling for the plug wiring details on line.
