We could not face the impracticality of another vehicle with a light coloured interior so wanted the Ebony and found that the additional light that you get via the roof made that interior more acceptable.
We don’t make much use of its opening feature so a fixed glass one would have suited us fine. On particularly bright days I, with the wide parting, find the front blind an asset.
I have wondered though how much weight penalty all that glass inflicts.

I thought the sunroof would come in handy for exiting the vehicle when Im stuck off-road (as i have had to do several times in my defender). However, 1) it doesnt open far enough and 2) now I have an expedition rack I couldnt get out anyway
So, of no use what so ever for me Duncan

I use the sunroof practically every day!
Admit it, your real concern is that your hair will get messy. I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

I could not have said it better myself, it really opens the car up.

I really wasn't bothered either way. We have had at least one convertible for the last few years, so I can get my open top fix by driving that. Also, but oddly not in the D3, sunroofs usely take up an inch or more of headroom, which for me is a problem.
However, last summer I often used the sunroof in the D3, really enjoyed it.
It would never be a buying point for me, but I'm glad I have it.

I've had sunroofs in numerous vehicles and never found them to be very useful. The LR3's sunroof, especially, is very noisy at any kind of speed. Here in the South, it's damn hot in the summer, so having it open and having the sun beating down on your head is just not all it's cracked up to be. The LR3 leak problem doesn't help things either. Just in case those things aren't enough to dissuade you, how about not being able to completely block out the light due to the "shade"? Oh well, at least it's light and airy, right?
Got 3. Can't use any of them due to the G4 roofrack.
Mrs Dog won't let me take the roofrack off even though I bleat about fuel consumption.
Not much use to me then, even if I wanted them.2006 G4 Challenge Support Vehicle

Got the sunroof on the SE - on the exterior it's much more style of substance - on the silver body work the tinted black roof looks just right.. 8) Anyone else agree with me here?
Interior wise, it gives slightly more light into the cabin and the rear rows of chairs.
Other than that, it's never really used. Gets opened occasionally on the motorways and when doing speed, as opening the rear windows creates a painfully loud booming sound..

I never open my sunroof as it's too noisy. However, I do like having the sunroof and alpine roof as lets in plenty of light into the cabin. I often look out the sunroof when in multistory carparks when driving under signs, air con vents and other things that hang down and nearly hit the D3. I often park in the underground carpark under China Town and even in access mode it's pretty tight. Looking up through the sunroof gives you that security and saves stopping and getting out.Matt
