7 Seat 2013 Range Rover Sport - the end for the Discovery?

Auto Express article suggests that new Range Rover Sport will have a 7 seat option, and also have the new aluminium platform so much lighter weight.

See http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/land-rover/ra...port-spied

Does this suggest the beginning of the end for the Discovery?

IMO it just suggests the expansion of the range to over 40 variant models as laid out in their own plans ...they have already committed to a future replacement to the D4 being titled as plain old Discovery Thumbs Up

Strange that as there were production line test runs of a new car "Discovery" whilst we were going round the LR tour before Christmas.
We also saw two models in camo, first looked the same as the autoexpress picture, second had a stepped roof and we think this was the new Discovery.
If you look at the AE pictures it has a flatroof and as such cannot be a proper 7 seater as there would not be the hieght in the back for tall people/adults.

"Evoque inspired styling" and "£55,000 price tag" would suggest there will be a market for the D3/D4 for some time yet Wink

The guy that did the Evoque is doing the "new" Defender ? is he not ? i cant remember his name ? an Aussie bloke Embarassed

I agree, and as Russell said, not like the stepped roof we saw at the factory and cant see how you would fit two in the back of that ? thats not to say its not but there doesent appear to be much of an overhang suggesting more room in the back than the current version ? and the RRS hasnt got a big load space any way ? a few curling tongs and some vanity cases and its full ? save for some white stilhetto's ?

The gills on the side do make it look FFRR but i think they are part of the cam ? not actually visible to my eye any way, they look too flat against the door lining ?

I recon the next Dicso will be on the same new alloy platform, the current disco and RRsport are on the same platform.

I am a little worried about the design direction that LR is taking. The new models have good designs, but they loose a lot of what I love about Land Rover, such as the large windows (Evoque windows are tiny), square front (New FRR is very rounded, as are the new designs). I love the boxy look.

... which is why im ordering a MY 13 LR4 HSE Lux, most likely tomorrow, while I still can.

I didn't like the boxy look but it seems to grow on you.We like the 17' rims over here but looks like they are history with the MY13 D4 aus spec Sad

they are becoming more soccer mum's cars as we call them here.

I love the look of my last D2,MY04,now owned by one of my sons.

That looks like a test mule for the L405 platform as it has the 4.4 SDV8 engine fitted.. Don't think they will offer that option in the SSRR for some time yet to try and get those customers into a pricier FFRR though to be honest with the FFRR offering 7seats at some point i really can not see the point in the SSRR. it fills no gap and just uses cheaper materials and parts to create a cheap FFRR that serves no real use. Fair enough the current one has the ability to use a lot of Disco bits and save money and be easily modded and more suited to offroad abuse should they want and was relatively cheap to build as it was affectively dropping another shell ontop but an all new one with its own monocoque... Hmm tooling and building can't be cheap and is it really worth it in the long run unless they produce so many there isn't a waiting list like the l405?!?
