Is that not the trafer box ECU behind that cover ?
Could be, all i know is, it got removed. Dried up and all pins cleaned and refitted.
Problem has since stopped so unless there's witchcraft* happening, i'm pointing the finger of blame at it.

Having similar sounding problems with my 05 plate TDV6 S. Got up yesterday morning to find that it was sitting on the drive with all the hazards flashing, doors constantly trying to unlock themselves, interior lights on and heater blower switching on and off.
Started the car and all faults went away but returned when I switched it off again. Started it again and left it running for half an hour before driving it to work (30 minute drive) and it seems to be ok now.
I wonder if it has done this before as a few weeks ago the battery went completely flat (less than 1 volt!). As the battery was original and on its way out I presumed that it had simply expired and got a new one. I have also blown 2 headlight bulbs in the last month (N/S and O/S). Will check behind the battery this weekend (when there is enough light!).Dave Neil

Years ago I had a Mondeo that had a "shelf" above the footwell at the base of the windscreen through which there was a hole for the heater to draw air via the pollen filter plastic housing. As Ford used a crappy foam seal which once wet rotted allowing water that had run off the windscreen past the seal making for a nice swimming pool in the passenger footwell.
Looking at the picture of the connector/ECU behind the battery it looks like a similar situation.
Do we know the route of the water i.e. off the corner of the wing or the base of the windscreen and how does that influence where to put sealant?

Not had a chance to check for water at the ECU yet for being stuck in Shetland for a couple of days longer than planned due to the weather.
However, the fault did not appear the whole time I was away. It has however come back today. Not a problem when the ignition is on, but starts when the ignition is off (keys can be in or out). Fault goes away when brake pedal is pressed but comes back when lifted. And sometimes a park brake fault is displayed on the dash so think it must be something to do with the brakes. Brake lights are all working and the park brake module was replaced under warranty a couple of years ago, although I had to get Strathearn to release the cable and wind it back in last February. The saga continues!Dave Neil

This is exactly my problem! Orkneydave, did you ever solve this? Thanks in advance

The red wire goes into a splice joint, which corrodes.
Splice into said wire, before it goes as far as the splice joint
Sorry to awaken such an old thread, but can you guide me as to where the red splice is please?
Mine is 2005 auto, but seems to have this hazard and locking fault that can be changed by pressing the brake pedal!

Update to lay this to rest.
The ECU had loads of water on it, the middle blue connector had loads of corroded pins so they were all cleaned up and the ECU dried out.
Thankfully that has worked so we had put some sealant on the connectors to stop water getting at them again.
Today we checked mine to see if I was going to have the issue. When we removed the cover my ECU was like new, no water Ingres signs anywhere. Sealant has been applied so it stays that way.
The ECU is behind a cover that's visible when you remove the battery. As pictured.

So should anyone bother to use the search function in the future. This thread will show the likely issue and how to fix it.

Is that the fuse box under the main battery ?
