Quick release tow bars

I am looking into getting a disco 3 and I tow a caravan
I notice some are not with a tow bar but have seen these quick release tow bars (some on here some on eBay)
1) do these just fit straight onto an existing fixture of the car?
2) is there a weight restriction compared to a fitted kit?
Thank you

Yep they fit behind the blanking plate but you also need the electrics loom. All very easy (fitted myself) some cars will need the car electrics to be told tow kit is on.

Dunno about weight limits, sorry.

The maximum weight allowed on the Caravan hitch is probably more important. Max on an Alko is 100kg (it's usually marked on the hitch) I think I have seen somewhere you should not load over 150kg on the car (but as said, that's way more than the hitch should take anyway)
D3 is the ultimate towing machine IMHO. The suspension is perfect for it. Hope you enjoy Smile

And they're still rated to tow 3,500 kg IIRC.

wasn't there an issue with the removable ones 'dropping out' and being classified as 'recreational use only'?

was looking for one for mine but reading stories like these put me off for a while, until I have investigated it properly (all the snow/towing hysteria has subsided lol (and prices drop))

Yes, there seems to have been quite a bit about that possibility. Personally, I have had no issues and feel very confident with it. Admittedly, it only has to come off once to change all that!! I keep mine indoors, clean it and lubricate it to keep it in good order. It's a beefy bit of kit IMHO and I work in the basis LR are unlikely to produce something not fit for purpose (ignoring the Jack of course!!) Rolling with laughter

thats great guys thanks for all the info
looks like there maybe a few electrics to sort!!! NOT MY THING (may have to start somewhere) unless plug n play!
Used a quick release on old car (bmw 330d touring) bit nervy to start off with but in the end felt good and did the job.
so overall message is if I find a car
with towbar fitted GREAT STUFF no horror stories
if not fitted dont panic these detachables will work but now the seed of doubt is planted may worry about it's reliabilty.
Thanks again
