Oil leak in 'V' any ideas ? (2.7Diesel).....please help

Hi,
I have just carried out the following maintenance on my 2.7 diesel,

..cam belt and tensioner
..fuel belt and tensioner
..new coolant
..new fuel filter
..new air filter
..new oil filter
..new oil

after all these jobs were completed I started the car up and noticed oil dripping from the weep hole in the bottom of the bell housing after I had turned the engine off.

I took the filter off and checked the oil seal was fitted correctly but before I put it back on I managed to suck out 250ml of oil from the voids in the V with a syringe with a long tube attached.

I degreased as far as I could and blew out with comp air but its very difficult to see down there, I then carefully cut out a circle in a yellow rag and stuffed it just below the base of the oil filter base (the bit the oil filter screws onto) replaced the oil filter then the cap and torqued it down, went for a 20 mile drive and returned. Drove the front wheel up a ramp and checked, more oil (about an egg cup full came out from the weep hole in the bottom of the bell housing.)

I checked my bright yellow rag and it was clean with no oil impregnated, so I'm sure it's NOT the oil filter or seal. I'm pretty sure that this leak must have been there for a while and it wasn't a result from anything I did..

What could it be and how difficult is the job.....oil cooler ? Big Cry

Any advice appreciated. Thanks......

Have replaced a few oil filter housings due to leaks in the V. Probably the best place to start

Its not a big job, around 3 hours or so if you have not done one before. It may also be called an oil cooler assy.
The crankcase breather assy has to be removed which can be a very fiddly task to remove.

Get a new oil filter and sump plug, and some fresh oil for it too, as when the cooler is lifted, the coolant spills into the oilways in the block. And a few litres of Anti-Freeze at the same time

There is also a lot of mess to clean up inside the V, so something to suck out the mess, and lots of paper towels or rags come in very handy Thumbs Up

May also be worth checking the glow plugs and attempting replacement while you have the access. but FFS, dont break them Shocked
