The more I hear of the detail the more I think this is a driving style issue than a technical one. Thumbs Up

No way, the RRS I just had was no where near as bad as my D4, same person same roads and junctions. I only get the serious acceleration because I have the hesitation and you then need to get out of the way so you ram your foot down hard, if I didn't have the hesitation it wouldn't put me in that position in the first place.

Is this limited to just the 2012 onwards 8 speed box? I only ask as going through the various threads on this I have not seen anything prior to 2012. My 2011 6 speed does this occasionally - usually at the worst possible time when setting off from a junction, there is no response then all of a sudden it accelerates away Confused

I appreciate that this is a D4 thread, so apologies for bringing my D3 into the discussion .....

The last couple of days my auto D3 (2009 - 45,000 miles) appears to have a similar problem.

When approaching a junction (uphill or downhill) and back off the accelerator for the last few yards, the engine revs fly up for about 1 or 2 seconds when I reapply the accelerator and then the gears engage and normal progress is resumed. This morning it did the same thing when pulling away from a standing start at a level juntion.

Clearly, I'm not on an 8 speed D4 box as discussed above.

Any clues what I should be looking at? I can't find an existing thread on this anywhere.

When it happens check for D in the instrument display. If that's not there then your gearbox linkage is pulling the car out of drive and revving in neutral. If so time to grease yer linkage. Thumbs Up

Thanks DSl/Robbie,

I haven't checked for D on the dash yet, but, if I've been driving around with no problems then it occurs when I slow down to turn into a junction, would this still indicate a sticking linkage? I haven't moved the auto selector.

I would have thought I would have had problems soon after selecting D if it was the linkage?

If only life was so simple!! Often does it all on its lonesome, touching the gear leaver isn't always part of the process. Not unusual for peeps to try and pull away at a roundabout or junction and the car just revs. Last time mine packed up it was after fuelling up and was stuck in the station with only R. All part of the fun & games. Thumbs Up
