Thanks

No matter how I set mine it always takes the scenic route! There is one piece of dual carriage way that must be haunted as it always diverts you off for two miles! Bloody awful sat nav. I now use the tom Tom app on my phone

LR should concentrate on building cars, and forget their extremely poor SatNav - they should "Buy in" SatNav technology & know how from TomTom or Garmin.

My 60 reg jag XF sat nav was very poor. I think JLR updated it about 12 reg. It seems better now but it needs to.

I think that some people just can't be arsed to learn how it works and then just constantly whine about it Thumbs Up They should be made to only ever use simpleton Tom tom Very Happy

I'm not sure I'd agree with that, DG. I'm pretty sure I know how to use it. Whilst the MY 13 D4 is an improvement over the MY12, it's still not as user-friendly or infallible as my TomTom. The TomTom is far better overall. The LR shatnav is prone to doing stupid things without reason. It makes no sense to me why they don't buy an off the shelf solution.

I was disappointed to see that the new RRS has the same crappy system.

DG,

I have spent ages being arsed to get the sat nav in my MY10 to work in a logical and sensible manner, but obviously I'm not doing something right. Perhaps if you're in my neck of the woods at any time you might enlighten me please?

Thanks.

Well I have Tomtom, Sygic, have had Garmin and I find the LR system no better or worse in general. Just my experience and opinion...feel free to rubbish it but it's not changing Very Happy

My last car, Mondeo had a fantastic Nav system, had it 5 years and worked really well and easy to use. To be honest, the D3 system is not that different IMO, yes I miss my TCM for live traffic updates, but other than that it gets a Thumbs Up from me.

Took me an hour or so to work it out, and over time I discovered a few things, such as how to show fuel stations on the map.....drop me a PM if you like Nigel with any specific questions.....

I know that I make sweeping tongue in cheek statements but it's not really that bad and IMO people are too ready to compare the simplicity of boxed stand alone units against a fully integrated infotainment systems. Tom Tom could produce a new sat nav unit every month if they wished and their developers only have to worry about it's singular function of getting you from A-B and this is something they do very well.

Some Motor manufacturers are beginning to offer inbuilt Tomtoms but they do not have the level of infotainment integration capability that you will find in JLR products nor most other motor manufacturers. The inbuilt units are in the main isolated from the head.

The provider of the JLR mapping software are Navteq which ISTR are now part of Nokia and are the second largest map data provider after teleatlas who own Tom Tom. The D4 head integration is still by Denso AFAIK. The systems planning is well in advance of production and can't just be changed at the drop of a hat in the same way you could make changes to a small box that you fit into your windscreen.

Of course improvements can be made and there are big changes coming along from later this year when JLR will be moving to a Linux based system.

My gripe isn't particularly the operating system, it's the routing that's the problem. It rarely seems to take a sensible route. In the three options given, part will be ok, but there'll be something stupid within each. If it would combine all the sensible bits.............., and before you ask, I've tried all route preferences (combinations and on their own) to no avail. I shouldn't have to put in a load of waypoints, or listen to the nagging thing trying to take us back to one of the daft routes for ever and a day. I often use the sat-nav of a means of keeping up to date with traffic issues as much as for routes. Having experienced a number of in-built sat-navs I will agree that the JLR is no worse (or better) than many of the other similarly vastly over-priced efforts, but when the software in Tomtom for example works well, and is relatively cheap to update................ Wink

I completely disagree with DG, it IS a shocking system in comparison to the VW and Merc ones. Having used all three on their latest versions the LR system is truly woeful.
